Garmin Nuvi 350 POI's not working

Hello, Im new to the poi world and to gps's as a matter of fact. I have a Nuvi 350, and have downloaded poi's from this web site on to a SD memory card via POI loader from garmin. I can view the POI's on my garmin thru Where to> My locations> custom poi. When Im driving, and I know the location of a Starbucks for example it does not come up on the screne nor do i get an icon. I have the proximity alarts set and i still get nothing. Every time I turn on my garmin, it asks if i want to download my poi to my garmin, i choose no. Do POI's need to be on my garmin to work. Or am I doing something wrong??

Hi Newt613,

Why don't you load your custom POI's right on to your Nüvi 350? According to my POI Loader I have 99,800 points-of-interest loaded on my Nüvi 670 and the POI Folder on my hard drive is only 7mb in size.

To be able to see the icons, you have to be zoomed way in, for them to display on the map. Also, your .csv, .bmp and .mp3 files have to be named the same. For example: "starbucks.csv", "starbucks.bmp" and "starbucks.mp3" (without the quotes, of course) for them to work correctly.

HTH (hope that helps)

Regards.

RE:

The POIs don't have to be on the NUVI, mine workd fine from the card, whenit shows do yu want to download to the NUVI, simplye check don't ask again, and say no, if you put new POIs on the card, it'll ask you again.
Per the above post, every file has to have the exact same name, poi, sound, and icon, then use poi loader to the card, and you should be good

.

Yeah, you need to zoom in.

Is there anything that can be done to avoid this (i.e. bigger .bmp icons)? A nice feature on the Tom Tom units is the ability to see the icons without having to zoom in uber-close.

.

Nope. It's coded in the firmware. Different models show the Custom POI icons at different zoom levels. The only way to change it is for Garmin to make a change with the firmware updates.

For instance, on my Zumo they show up when I am zoomed to 0.3 miles or closer. But for most other units, you must zoom in much closer.

I agree that having to zoom way in negates some of the usefulness. Perhaps if enough people request this of Garmin (nicely), they will put it into future firmware updates for all models.

At least on the 350, if you

At least on the 350, if you set an alert for a POI, it should show up on the screen. I use to have Starbucks alert, but then I got alerts every block, and yes, I saw the bmp.

Can you please elaborate how

Can you please elaborate how you keep your custom POI on the SD card. When I run POI Loader, it asks for the folder where the downloaded CSV is, then after allowing choice for setting the distance parameter and proximity alert, clicking next will proceed to download the POI's to my Nuvi 760. A choice to load them onto the SD card is not offered.

Also, if I acquiesce to loading POI's onto the GPS, do I also select the corresponding bmp and mp3 files of the same names to be loaded at the same time?

I am sorry, but I don't keep

I am sorry, but I don't keep the POIs on the SD card, it isn't necessary for me to do that since I have over 800MBs of space on the nuvi.

After the Welcome screen you'll have an option to select where the files will be loaded to.. select the SD card.

Click Find Device if your Nuvi is being stubborn

Place Poi MP3 and BMP in same folder.

Is there a way to have all

Is there a way to have all the files load as one and not have to get each little piece?

99,800 POIs

Earlier I was surfing various forums trying to find a solution to a problem (thanks Motorcycle Mama!) and I stumbled on a thread where everyone was telling horror stories about loading too many POIs onto their Garmins - some said any more than "257" categories and it will freeze up and have to be sent back to Garmin.

The general thought was to always use a card. You haven't had any problems? It really scared me to download much to the unit.

I have an iMac and have a folder on my desk top with my POIs and icons....when I load them into my 350 I get a message that says they are loaded....but when I go to the custom poi's the old ones are the and not the new ones....should I deleate the old ones then reload the new ones? also the icons that I loaded don't show on the maps even when I zoom in....Thanks in advance for your help.....

You have to load all of your

You have to load all of your Poi's at once or else they will get overwritten.
