Welcome

Welcome Joker, it is nice to have you here. I am looking forward to hearing about you adventures in the world of GPS.

Miss POI

A big welcome to you

I dont get on here much, but welcome. The next thing you would want to buy is a bean bag mount. The suction cup mounts to a flat disk in the middle of the beanbag. The bag is heavy and cohesive enough on the bottom to not move around on the dash while driving. Hope this lil tid bit helps you.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Welcome aboard Joker!

Welcome

Thank you all for the welcome and suggestions. I've backed up my files as recommended. Unfortunately I had already updated my software via webupdater to v.4.20 before learning the importance of backing up the base files but I don't appear to be having any problems thus far. I've also been considering the friction mount and/or the vent mount as a solution to moving my 660 between vehicles. I dislike the suction cup method althought it works well enough, I need all the window view I can get. smile The vent mount might be the way to go.

Lots of mounting options available

http://www.ram-mount.com

http://www.mountguys.com/ -- They have one that's like a goose-neck thing that attaches by loosening up a bolt of the car seat, slipping the mount under, and tighten the bolt again.

Mounting

This is what I did....
I have a new Toyota Highlander. I took the large black disk that came with my 550 and cut off about 1/3 of the disk. I left enough of the disk so the suction cup has room to mount on the disk. I purchased some double sided tape (3/8) the stuff that has some kind of foam between the sticky tape.
I put the tape around the top and sides of the vent next to the radio. This gives me a good view of the GPS.
If you try this besure the GPS won't interfer with the windshield wiper arm. Mine work fine.
When I remove the GPS unit I have a post-it-note that says "pick up laundry". The note covers the disk.
