OK so I got this Nuvi 780 yesterday, upgraded from a C340 which was really great but is dated. I purchase this from www.techonweb.com for about $712.00 with fedex 2nd day shipping. The item came with everything sealed and turn it on, wow! a beautiful 4.3 inch screen bright! It was a big jump from the dated c340. I turn it on and went to my car, signal was detected in about 2 minutes! I went back to my house registered MSN direct and it took about 20-40 minutes to be activated but it won't give me weather, movie, news or anything else yet the only thing that uploaded was the web favorites, I think it takes about 2 days for the service to upload everything, I'll post comments very soon about this service, I did tried the FM frequency oh boy I was so happy that the voice comes out with much less static than the Tomtom 920T that I returned after 6 days of playing with a horrible machine, please do yourself a favor do not buy TOMTOM!!!!. I got tired to I went back to my house and stop playing with it. I will be posting pictures most likely on flickr and I'll compare it to the Nuvi 200W which I got for my wife.I am also happy to report that once you go thru with the MSN activation it gives you an option to extent the subscription for 6 more months for only $9.99, I think that is an amazing price!!! Take advantage or you will be paying $50 after the 3 month trial!. Very Happy
MSN Direct Works
So, MSN Direct finally works everything is downloaded. I was suprise to see that I was getting signal inside my house, I tried sending from live maps and it works perfectly. All traffic was update, gas prices, news, stocks everything!! I played around with some addresses and took some pictures of all these MSN features, I will post pictures on Flickr hopefully today. Check them out soon.
MSN Direct2 Works inside your house
Well, all I can tell you that it takes 1 day to download its information the first time you register but after that it keeps downloading information and let me tell you something cool!! it does not need to be connected to the car plugin, I had it on my window inside my house and it downloaded information now that is cool! I own a Garmin 780 which i just got 3 days ago. I will be posting pictures on my Flickr page soon by 2/15/2008. So far I love my Garmin which I changed for the TomTom 920T. You get news, movie times, gas, weather, events and stocks.
Tomtom 920T
What is it with the Tomtom 920T that you returned? What makes it so horrible? If you have the time, could you please compare the 920T with what you have now, in addition to the 200?
Thanks.
TomTom 920T experience
First of all the TomTom 920T wasn't as bright as advertised and then it gave me all kinds of problems, when you raise the volume to 90% it was so static that I couldn't understand anything! Then there was the canceling a route, why is this so complicated why? you have to hit like 5 times to get to the clear route option, come on tell me that is not horrible, you need to concentrate on the road not hitting so many button to get to an option. Then the complication with all my phones, the new Blackjack II connects but can't give me access to the wireless option on the TomTom, iphone which I also owe connects (again just for phone option) but was disconnecting all the time. A call came thru and pressed on the big telephone icon but no the person couldn't hear me at all, this happened on many occasions, once again horrible!!!! The maps well.... they are ok I liked them but they are not as clear as the Garmins and always was off when getting to a place. It will say arrive but the place was about 2 blocks away, once again horrible!!!! Well I can keep on and on with the things that I dislike about TomTom but it will take me forever!! I am not saying this Garmin is perfect but so far I am more than satisfied. I just want to add the TomTom looses traffic signal a lot! another feature that I didn't like, the antenna is so long that it was so frustrating to take it out and then put it on my small sedan, I like the Garmin now that everything is integrated but is just preference, I just don't think TOMTOM is great! I will be comparing the 200W with this GArmin 780 soon. Check out the pictures on the Garmin 780. If you want to check out pictures then go to www.flickr.com and use tag Garmin 780 or copy and paste http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=Garmin+780&m=tags

Garmin 780 Problems
Ok, so I have played with my Nuvi 780 so far it has been good to me! but.... there are some downsides and I think you guys should know it. First the Volume is to low on 80% when I use a computer voice, if I use the regular (left, right, straight) options is loud enough. I don't drive a new car so my car makes a lot of noise. I was driving on highways and couldn't hear the voice guidance so I found myself looking at the gps screen a lot. The FM transmitter works nicely but has its flaws like you have to tune it manually and I live in NYC and one station works in Queens and another in Manhattan but so far they are much clear on the Garmin than the TT. The other feature that I think TT has an edge on it is reading traffic and how you click on the screen and gives you the accidents, the Garmin basically you have to click additional buttons to get traffic but is not as clear as the TT. I turn the voice guidance to 100%(Master) and 90%(guidance) and works nicely with some static but not as bad as the TT. I found that coverage in NYC is great! The maps are great and found it much simpler than the TT. The best feature on the Nuvi 780 is the ability to send from maps.live.com straight to the Garmin. Another thing that I should let you guys know is that this Garmin has a great signal reception, while driving in the middle of Manhattan by Time Square (lots of high rise buildings) the signal was still great but when I got to streets that were really stretchy it lost signal and it wasn't find it at all until I got to a wider street, the signal strength was a lot better than the Garmin c340 I had so I am happy with this signal strength. I should also note that my iphone connects but then it disconnects from my Garmin this happens frequently, I don't know why but my wife's phone works perfectly, it connect and keeps connected. Well I'll be playing with this unit a little more and will let you know any other things. I'll post more pictures soon.
