You can open with Text Edit after you download it to your Mac !
But you don't have to. The file is in csv format at POI Factory.
Once you have the csv file on your Mac you can easily load it to your GPSr with POI Loader for Mac from Garmin.
Many threads on this in the "search" section and Faqs !

As Ken said, don't open it; save it to your desktop and then move it to an appropriate folder when ready to load using POI Loader. I recommend you use the beta version of the Mac POI Loader since some of us (not all) have had no luck getting the current version to offer the manual loading option -- the beta works well.

Thank You for the information. I did get the Rest Area in, but I have no idea how to add the alert and symbol.

Since you're using a Mac,

Since you're using a Mac, the instructions may be different. On the PC POILoader, there's a "manual" mode which allows you to set the proximity alert to the distance (in feet) that you'd like.

As for the icon, it's really a bitmap file, and it just needs to be in the same folder as the CSV file, and named the same. So something like:

\Documents\POI's\Rest Areas.csv
\Documents\POI's\Rest Areas.bmp

Hope that helps...

AppleWorks or NeoOffice works as a Spreadsheet editor for POIs.

If you want to edit a POI file on a Mac, you don't need Excel per se, but any spreadsheet application that can output comma delimited files will work which generally include AppleWorks (likely already on your computer) or NeoOffice (a free downloadable Microsoft Office alternative).
