Public Library

Most public libraries have books on DVD that can be put onto the card via iTunes. Much easier are Podcasts like NPR Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me.

Another place to get audio books is a company that works like Netflix. Monthly fee to rent as many as you can turn around: http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/

I like wwdtm. But I don't

I like wwdtm. But I don't get to listen to it often. Love Car Talk as well.

Problem

The problem with all this is that listening to mp3's is evidently preventing POI mp3 alerts from triggering on some (all) units? I'd hate to find myself laughing at wwdtm and then crying when I got a camera ticket.

No, when an alert comes on,

No, when an alert comes on, it will break into whatever is playing and play the alert, so don't worry about the ticket, unless you ignore the alert...lol

Is that if you load the stuff from NPR onto your nuvi, then it's old news?! I mean, a book I can understand but news?

well, yeah, the news is old,

well, yeah, the news is old, but the programs aren't (unless you already heard them...lol). I still download the news sometimes when I haven't heard it on the radio and I am flying and want to listen to NPR. I am sorta a NPR addict too.

I was just thinking more along the lines of like people who had books that they wanted to share with other folks or trade or something like that for FREE! I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem paying my fair share but if there's a FREE way out there, well, why not?! (LOL) Free is good isn't it?

Oh ok....I do have a few books (classics) that I found on the net (google'd it). Nothing new, but good ones like Xmas Carol and Red Badge of Courage.

Oh they were free

I had not recommended, and we were not talking about the news broadcasts on NPR, we were talking about a show called, Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. If you haven't heard it, you should listen to an episode before dismissing it. Paula Poundstone is one of the brightest and funniest comediennes around; she is regularly one of 3 panelists.

Not just the GPS owner

A friend asked me this last weekend. In addition to the obvious, I answered, it's apparent that these intersections have a history of people running red lights---so it's an indicator to be particularly aware that OTHER people are very likely to be driving through a red at that intersection when you've got a green.

Yeah!

That's the ticket!! I was looking for a place where I could download some free books in a format that my nuvi could play them. I won't be storing them on the nuvi but rather the 1GB SD card I have for it.

Thanks Again!

NYC

Your screen name ends in NYC and you find it unbelievable that cars might not make it through an intersection until a tiny bit late???? rolleyes You're putting us "on", right?

Also, when redlight cameras are installed, people have a tendency to slam on their brakes even when they'd be better off going through on yellow. Nice to be ready in case the guy in front of you panics.
