Garmin Route Determination Algorithm

I have noticed that my C530 GPS proposes a different departing route than the return route. It calculates that when leaving home, pass up the first 4 lane access highway to the interstate and drive west to the second 4 lane highway. However, on the return it has determined that the closer highway is a better choice. This makes me wonder what calculations are considered in making these determinations. (I have the C530 set to fastest time.)

Time factors are distance, speed limits, traffic lights and their wait times, and traffic... did I miss anything? (However, I don't have a traffic receiver connected.) Are these factored into the calculations? Would anyone have a clue as to why the GPSr is suggesting a different outbound from the return?

Route confusion

I was gonna ask the same thing I look forward into some insite on this.. I have a couple trips I take that take me on different routes coming and going. What about the difference in models. I get a limo ride to the airport on a pretty regular basis and the drivers gps is often a different route to the airport depending on the drivers model. Its always fun to see what it's going to come up with.

route confusion.

I have found this also. I find that it bypasses the most direct routes. When I drive using the more direct route, it takes a while to recalculte, and then seems to take a circuitous route to the location.

Must be an Unknown or Proprietary Info

I was not able to find anthing on route calculation algorithms in a web search... look like this is not something widely known.

.

I have noticed the different calculations in a round trip between two destinations. The time does not vary more than a minute, and it gives a bit of variety take both routes. I thought it might be how close one start point is to the freeway compared to the other start point. If I go the way I choose, it recalculates to a familiar route.
