Traffic Circles

I experienced this in Green Bay, WI this week where they have set up traffic circles at several intersections. When my Nuvi tells me to make a left turn and I enter the circle, it goes nuts thinking I have left the route. I assume it is the initial right into the circle but I found it entertaining. I hit several other circles on purpose, same result. I admit to sometimes torturing my unit for grins, but has anyone else had this experience? I also assume that the problem is related to the circles being installed after the last map update, surely users in the UK or elsewhere do not have this issue?

Maybe your map is not up to

Maybe your map is not up to date. We have circles here in NJ and I don't have any issue.

If they just change the traffic pattern that would be the cause of your GPS getting confuse when you turn.

They have four traffic circles in Mount Horeb, WI, one is older then the other three and my 2820 recognizes the older one but not the other three. I think the oldest one is a couple of years old. My maps are the 2008 version.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Worked For Me

The Traffic Circles (aka Roundabouts) must be new b/c I used my 750 w/ New Zealand maps installed on a 4 week trip and it did a great job of dealing with traffic circles, making these sometimes confusing intersections easy.

works for me too...

I have several circles too, and it even tells me "enter roundabout" and "second right" while I am in the roundabout.

Perhaps you do have old maps

Have 2008 Maps, and have confused mine in NJ

I've got the 2008 Maps on my Nuvi 660. I have managed to confuse it with circles and various awkward road patterns outside of Camden NJ.

I have a Garmin 760 and my

I have a Garmin 760 and my maps are current as is the units firmware. I have the same problem with a traffic circle. It doesn't go nuts but it recalculates a few times and once I get out of the circle it has me on the correct route. This circle is not new.

Where did you get your New

Where did you get your New Zealand maps?

It's the same for me with my 750 and current maps when I'm in Sedona/OakCreek with their new roundabouts. I was surprised and very impressed the first time "Karen" routed me through them.

For whatever reason, I find that Garmin map updates contain more recent mapping changes in Arizona than many others report in their states.

Region of Waterloo, Ontario

The Region where I live, in Ontario probably has at least 20-30 roundabouts and my Garmin is excellent. It tells me which exit to take. Mind you this was not the case until I updated my map.

Get an updated map and it should work at least on your Garmin.

The only problem, is strictly with the drivers that show no courtesy, and blow through the roundabouts the same way they probably blow through the amber light on a signaled intersection. Now if only Garmin could include an "Idiot Approaching" alarm on the GPS. Hmmmm!

Good Luck.

I favor the idiot approaching warning

Yes, I totally agree. The "Yield to traffic in circle" means nothing.

New traffic circles (or

New traffic circles (or roads for that matter) cause those types of problems. If your maps are up to date, submit a map correction on the Garmin site. Eventually, they get to those items and will include it in the update. (I have done that previously and had some success)

Traffic Circles

I traveled in Europe and there is a lot of traffic circles there, I mean a lot, and I never had that problem. In fact, it was very accurate when entering and exiting the circle. smile
