c330's "special" usb cable

I notice there is a "filter" <?> on this cable that ships with the c330. Does this have special significance. Will a regular usb cable work as well?

Yes, it is filter, but I

Yes, it is filter, but I have used "normal" non filtered cables just fine.

I have a 330 as well and use a USB cable that came with my phone. No noise issues or other problems. Works fine.

Ferrite "bead"

He is referencing the ferrite bead/core that you often find on the ends of various cables shipping with products. USB cables often have them when they come bundled with a device (like a printer or the Garmin) as do many "wall wart" style AC/DC power supplies.

These are put in place to help pass EMI (electro-magnetic interference) testing which is required by the FCC to prove that a device neither radiates to effect other devices or will be effected by other devices' radiation.

One easy way to pass these types of tests is to simple install "chokes" on any cables that can act as antennas for this sort of thing.

For normal operation these ferrite beads do nothing. They are not built into the cable conductors but instead the cable is simple wrapped once around the ferrite donut and then the whole thing is sealed up into a nice cylinder looking shape.
