Garmin 2.6 for 700 series

Garmin just came out with the 2.6 firmware for the 7xx. It has quickfix II. What exactly does quickfix II do?

Here is what I see

I see the list of enhancements from the Garmin WebUpdater. I don't know if you saw the same list. I don't know what Quick Fix is...

Nuvi 7xx 2.6 Update

Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.60:

* Correct street suffix entry handling in address searcher
* Correct display of MadMaps Routes names
* Correct issue that prevented some MadMaps routes from displaying properly on the unit.
* Correct issue with proximity alarm points in MadMaps
* Add Compliance warning pages for FM transmitter
* Add support for Canadian traffic from MSN.

I don't know what quickfix

I don't know what quickfix is either.

The folks in Canada hopefully will be helped by the MSN traffic support. I think I have read a few posts about the MSN traffic.

MSN v2 has been great here. Hope it works better for Canada.

SIRF Instant Fix II Revealed?

I asked a Garmin Technician what the undocumented changes to the SIRF chip in the 7xx series does for us. This change took place after the most recent software upgrade to version 2.6

The response I received was...

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

The software update to version 2.60 included, besides updates to the Garmin Unit Software, an update to the SIRF software provided to Garmin by SIRF Technology, Inc. As you know, the update included the message "Powered by SIRFInstantFixII". We do not have any specific information on what this update does or is intended to do.

Should you have further questions please contact Garmin Product Support by replying to this email or contact our Consumer Support Line at 800-800-1020 Monday-Friday 8am-5pm CST.

That explains it... razz
