no voice just beep

I have a nuvi 750 and I really dont need the text to speech while in a route. Instead is there a way to just have some sort of generic alert sound like a beep when a turn is coming up?

You could...

If you use the software mentioned here:-

arrow http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=v...

You can 'decompose' one of the non-text-to-speech voice .VPM files into its constituent .WAV files. If you then replace them all with a dummy .WAV containing silence; and reconstitute the .VPM, that should give you the effect you are seeking.

If you choose one of the foreign voices you don't normally use, then you can switch the effect on & off at will. You'd probably want to turn the "Attention Tone" on, so that you get some kind of notification.

I can't believe you don't want to use the TTS though exclaim

Thanks, this is quite

Thanks, this is quite useful. The voice can get annoying sometimes, and I think I will also edit a foreign language and use that to get tone-only alerts when turns are coming up.

BTW, should this work ok for a Nuvi 200w?

that looks like it should work

I thought there might be an easier way through the interface but i will check it out.

I just wanted to replace the TTS for a trip we are going on. We are leaving at night and I didnt want the TTS voice keeping everyone awake. I thought that a nice beep or ding would work better. Thanks for the advice.

Or...

...you could just turn down the volume so that it is only audible to the driver. It can also be muted, but then you have to keep an eye on the screen as you get near a turn.

Does the 750 not have the same capability as my 660 under NAVIGATION/VOICE PROMPTS to turn off Voice Prompts? Under NAVIGATION/ATTENTION TONE you can still turn on the attention tone (alert ding).

Agreed

smile oh yeh ... you can switch it off on the Nüvi 310 as well. It didn't register with me as being a useful feature...
...but there again, I prefer listening to the GPSr, rather than the other occupants of the car wink

With the Nuvi 650 Wrench>proximity points>alerts>change>custom POIS>audio
try that and see if it will work for you.
