Nuvi 250W

Hi again: This has been a real help to me in learning mu new Nuvi 250W. Question is, when i am hooked up to my computer i cant operate my Nuvi. Is this normal or is there a way to make it work when plugged in to my PC. Please help if you can. Thankyou. Until next time.

Hey wooterdude,
I beleive when Nuvi is connected to pc with usb cable, it will be in MASS STORAGE mode only.
You cannot operate it, only load POIs and tinker with data on Nuvi drive and SD card if installed.
That's what I have learned with my Nuvi260W. I connected to pc and removed all of the foreign language text, voice, & help files. (moved to a file on pc).
This freed up space on Nuvi drive to install the entire vehicle-icon bundle from Garmin's site.
And space for my own jpg files to use as background on startup screen.

Thanyou for the input,My son's C330 can be operated when plugged in.I guess they all have there pro's and con's.My Nuvi 250W has way more Pro's then con's.very happy so far this is an excellent basic Navigation device.Thanks again for your time.

But...

... the 330 can't be used in mass storage mode. Makes it somewhat less friendly for transferring data in and out of the GPS. Supposedly that it why it is incapable of reading POI info from an SD card. I've read that in other threads here anyway... never used one myself.

You don't need to delete stuff to install the entire vehicle-icon bundle. Of course if you have tons of jpegs you would like to install it might mean otherwise. Just letting the new guys know.

A later poster said quackinup's tip worked on his nuvi 200. And, if it works with a 200, it should work with a 250. Good luck.
