Looking for a little GPS Guidance

cool Greetings everyone. This is my first post here on the POI-Factory, although I have been reading a lot since I first found this site just a couple of weeks ago. My eyes are now open to the many possibilities as this site has expanded the potential of my GPS. Thank you for all of the great information and tips. I really can’t wait to start downloading the POI’s, but most importantly I can’t wait to contribute my own. I can’t wait for my next cruiz!

I am a nuvi Newbie as I received a GARMIN 660 for Christmas (In fact, I didn’t know I was getting one & purchased one for myself as well, which I later returned). I have been doing a little more digging & including the information I have obtained from this site, I have been debating about upgrading to the 680 or 760...

The unit will be used in a few different vehicles. Mainly in my pickup as well as in my convertible (I will have to take into consideration sun light & audio issues) I do a fair amount of traveling (Short trips & long trips all over the US & sometimes Canada) with both vehicles, sometimes hauling the car with the truck. I’m sure I will pack the GPS whenever I go hiking & camping as well. So I guess I am looking for my best options for bells & whistles as well.

My main question is… question

Do I stick with the 660 or go for the one of the 680 or 760 models. I do intend to use the traffic alerts (FM or MSN) which is better? I understand I can purchase a lifetime subscription for MSN compared to the yearly FM subscription.. The 660 came with Fodor’s Travel Guide- Does the 680 or 760 as well & is it worth worrying over? Can it be purchased elsewhere? Is there much difference with the internal antenna & what’s all hoopla about WAAS not WAAS? Is battery life something to worry about?

I am sorry for the long winded question. I have been trying to do the research on my own (here, online & in stores) I'm just looking for “hands on” personal opinions from the end users. laugh out loud

I have until January 31st to make my decision where I can still make an upgrade.

Thank you in advance for your time & guidance.

Kindest regards,
WildBill

680, 760 vs 660

I have a 680 and don't know much about the 760. My friend has a 660 so we compare all the time. So far, I love my 680. I travel alot as well and when going into a big city, the travel alerts work great. I love the MSN feature and the costs for a lifetime is very minimal. When driving into Phoenix both my friends 660 and my 680 showed about the same traffic alerts. I have heard the 660 has more traffic alerts but I have not had a problem with MSN. As you know the 6xx series does not have multiple routing, a feature I would like to have but can live without. I just drive the way I want and the GPS re-computes my route. If it were me, I would go with the 680 if it doesn't cost you much and then wait for the newer 8xx series that was announced at the CES show. It has everything the 7xx series has plus the ability to talk into it. Just my 2 cents.

680,760 Vs 660

It is the new 8xx series that will have voice command. The 7xx has the ability to store multiple destinations in a stored route.

Six of one ...

..simply personal preference! I have a 660, 680, and 750, and like them all!

I find I like the MSN web favorites feature on the 7xx series. I turn on the unit and MSN receiver, send a destination to the GPS from MSN Live Maps, ..and automagically find the destination in MSN Web Favorites.

In AZ, the FM traffic receiver gave earlier warnings on a trip to Tucson (Had a passenger using my 660/w FM Traffic). There really were no good alternate routes to take.

Strangely, the FM receiver has continued to function beyond the three month trial period. I wonder if the trial is reset whenever an upgrade is applied to the receiver? ...don't tell Garmin!!!!!
