Where did my .gpx file go?

After running the POILoader, all the .gpx files in my POI directory are gone. Does the POILoader delete them after loading?

How can I pull the POIs out of the poi.gpi file? I believe this can be done with MapSource, however I am at work now and don't have all my Garmin related software here.

I created a new .gpx file with over 500 entries. Loaded with POILoader and I no longer have the .gpx file.

Please tell me I can get these back.

Thanks, Rob.

I have several GPX files for my POIs, and I've never seen the POILoader remove them. Do you have the latest version?

POI Loader definitely doesn't delete them. Where was this .gpx file stored? -- Not on the Nüvi by any chance?

Otherwise...Search -> "For Files and Folders" and see if you can track it down.

Mapsource can't do it, but a gpsbabel module has appeared which can (well, sort of).

Put the POI.GPI somewhere safe and have a good look around your PC first.

The gpx files are no where

The gpx files are no where to be found. I saved the poi.gpi and will test again.

I have seen this happen twice. The first time I just thought I was losing my mind and misplaced the files. The second time, funny you should ask, the .gpx files were stored on the SD card in the nuvi.

I make my living as a computer geek and don't usually screw things up like this. But hey, weirder stuff has happened.

I will test again.

Thanks, Rob.

Say no more...

When the Nüvi boots, it appears to do a complete sweep of all the directories for .gpx files. idea Apparently it extends this search to the SD card as well...

It merges any new <wpt> entries into your Favourites and deletes the file. However, it then writes the new list of Favourites back out to \Garmin\Current.gpx -- so you might find your missing entries there (the Favourites list only holds 500 entries though...)

Note: Some firmware versions don't seem to write out current.gpx until you have a satellite lock. (Maybe to stop the file having a strange time-stamp?)

Thanks Phil

Well I think that explains it. I copied my current.gpx file and it contained the partial contents of all the .gpx files I had on the SD card.

Unfortunately it mostly lhad all the POIs that I have the .gpx file for, and only a very few of the POIs that I don't have the .gpx for.

Lesson learned:

DON'T store your .gpx files on the SD card.

Oh well, back to google to re-create the list.

Thanks again. This forum is awesome.

Well there's always the gpsbabel option...and now I know you're a 'Computer Geek', I don't need to attempt to explain how to use it.

I resemble that remark.

I came across gpsbable the other day and didn't think I would need it. I will take another look.

Now I need to get back to work and stop playing with my toys.

Thanks, Rob.

I would worry about the spouse catching you playing with your 200.
