Chatty Charley thread for the week of January 7th 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Miss Poi

Might as well be the first

Daughter went to her first slumber party this past saturday. My wife packed her up with a week's worth of stuff, she didnt sure half of what she took. Wife packed blankets, pillow, sleeping bag, 2 sets of clothes, a full tolietries bag (which she never used).

I got to play GH3 all night without having to share with daughter and I finally beat her high score. Of course, she played once and beat me again.

Is that so wrong?

I returned a $300 coat I got for Christmas so I could justify getting a $300 Nuvi 650.

I only have one GPS (C340), I have several beautiful coats.

Is that so wrong? smile

Not wrong at all

Practical. Nothing wrong with having a new 650 and keeping the other for a spare. smile

A frat boy gets into the back of a cab, and asks the cabbie, "Do you have enough room up there for a Pizza and a six pack of Beer?"

The cabbie says, "Sure." So the frat boy leans forward and throws-up.

On the cage in a Yankee zoo, it will have the name of the animal and the scientific name in Latin. A Southern zoo will have the name of the animal and a recipe.

Only if you're caught by the one who gave you the coat. wink

I bought a Nüvi 750 while the 350 was under RMA. Okay, my rationales were:

  • I'd have a back up
  • I have two cars.
  • mrgreen

    New Energy Saving Lights

    auggie wrote:

I replaced a whole bunch of multiple 40W bulbs in fixtures with 60W compact fluorescents. They provide a whole lot more light and only use 1/4 of the energy. They help reduce the electric bill, but heavy users like appliances make up the bulk of the energy use in an average household. Anyway, every little bit helps, especially the way energy costs keep rising.

    From another thread...about radar detectors

    gdfaini wrote:

I saw a few posts and want to add (or agree) with some of the things said.

    1) Yes, radar detectors are LEGAL in every state but VA (and although not a state, Washington, DC as well)

2)In Canada, radar detectors are illegal to use in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec.

    3) In VA, technically it is illegal to have in car, but if it is out of reach of power and yourself, they aren't going to give you a ticket.

    4) In VA, they do not take the radar detector from you since it is a prepayable fine and you don't have to go to court.

    5) In VA, radar detector ticket do not carry any points any longer (they use to) and it is only around $110 (depending on what locality you are in)

My parents visit routinely from NC. Their radar detector is mounted permanently in the dash and hardwired, so it can't be removed or disconnected when they come through VA. I wonder how they'd handle that. My father's not concerned since he doesn't think they'd give a ticket to a retired COP.

Since we are getting off subject here, I will post my reply in Chatty Charley thread

Mine is hardwired, and concealled. I see rather a lot of ppl who have it openly on dash, but I am not going to take unecessary risk of getting a ticket for it.

I bought 12 and will be looking at the bill in six months. They are not as bright as I thought they should be. But I will see

Really off topic...Fox Sports & Kenny Albert Rant

    rant

Makes me wish I were temporarily hearing impaired.

If I could find the game on the radio right now, I'd mute him, and use my DVR to 'pause' tv until I could get the sound in sync to the video.

    /rant

edit to add: Problem solved. Streaming audio from WHB-AM 810 and the DVR are a great combination. I'm now a happy camper.

    BBQ

I watched "Dirty Jobs" on TV recently. The guy was cleaning out the BBQ pit at a place in a tiny town in Georgia. He said that it is well known from around the State as the best BBQ... So I got out my new GPS, pluged in the town (Gray, GA) as my destintion, and then searched for BBQ joints near my destination. It is now in my favorites... I'll create a TourGuide Alert so that if I happen to be anywhere within 10 miles of that place even a few years down the road, I'll get an alert to go try it out.

    CFL's WILL save you money.

CFL's WILL save you money. They use approximately 2/3 less wattage for the same amount of lumens an incandescant bulb produces.

I changed out every bulb in the house with them.

Some have a delayed start and some are instantaneous start. Read the labels to identify which one you are buying.

    auggie wrote:

I replaced 4 60 watt bulbs with 20 watt CFLs in my kitchen fixture. They've been in for two years. Probably doesn't make much difference in the electrical bill but a heck of lot of savings in light bulbs. I was replacing the 60 watt bulb at the rate of about one every 2 weeks.

Fried ice cream is along that same line....The outside is cooked very quickly at a high temperature, and is removed from the heat before the ice cream has time to melt.

    Deep fried apples

I use to work as the food/beverage at an Embassy Suites and when we got bored, we would try to come up with new stuff. We came up with fried apples that taste just like apple pie.

We would dip the slices in egg and roll them in oatmeal mixture that had cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg and then fry them.....they were good.
