GPS doesn't like intersection

Hi,
Here is a situation that I find interesting. I have a 660 that I have had since August. Once or twice a week we go up to our boat. The Gps always (except for once) refuses to use an intersection on the way. It will tell me to make a left and then a right turn a block before this intersection, adding two additional turns to the route. When I ignore it, it then tells me two go an additional block past the intersection then turn left and left again. It does the same thing in reverse when going home. Since August it has only had me turn in this intersection once, and that was when I told it to go to the boat when we were half way there. Mapsource picks a route using this intersection. I have a GPS III that will also use this intersection. Something in the routing algorithm on the 660 is obviously causing this to happen. I have seen this same type of strange behavior at other intersections occasionally, but this one is consistent. I will report this to Garmin to see if they are interested in this sort of feedback.

It sounds more like bad map data

It isn't the algorithm causing the problems it is bad map data that the algorithm is using to route around. I see that kind of problem usually not in metro area.

The map data on any kind of a bridge or overpass uses some additional info to let the algorithm know what the roads are doing. My guess is your intersection has got data in that field by accident that needs to be changed and unfortunately a user can't do it.

You can inform Garmin of the problem here.

It sounds more like bad map data

Could be, the GPS V has and older map on it, however Mapsource is using the same maps (NT2008) as the 660. Plus there is another intersection near here that will do a very similar thing. It will be interesting to see what Garmin has to say.

My Nuvi 200 doesn't like

My Nuvi 200 doesn't like interstates for short trips. I was experimenting with my unit one day and had it route me to a known location. I was just off an onramp for the interstate and the destination was just off the interstate three exits down. It routed me down a side road and when I went on the interstate anyway, it advised me to take the next exit and drive to its original route, it then did the same thing when I missed the exit.

One thing I miss from my tomtom is the ability to review the entire route first and have it come up with a different route if I don't like it. I have to use via points to force a new route.

660 has interesting issue as well

Draksig, I wonder if your issue is because it's not set to use the quickest route. I believe in our 350 and 660 there is a setting for that but I can't recall off the top of my head. I also believe, you can close your antenna and it will simulate the trip on your GPS. I've done that before to see where it takes me.

My 660 is brand new. It has the newest map on it which includes the new development where we live. However, when I'm headed down 51st street and approch the main street, let's call it Smith Street, it tells me to turn left on Smith and then turn right on 51st street (the street I started on). We don't have a jog on that street. But the map shows me going straight, which is what the street phsically does.

Our 350 does not do this at all. I'm not sure what it is with the 660's new map that is causing this.

Routing Issue

I noticed something to on my 660 this past weekend on a "Where to" I did.

I put in the address I need to go to. On the final road I needed to turn on (well traveled road). I need to make a left turn. The 660 wanted me to go an extra 0.2 miles make a U-turn, then turn on to the road that led to the address. Even then though I could make the actual left turn.

I belive in these type of

I belive in these type of situations, and I've only encountered one as well regarding a left turn, the GPS may think that a left turn is not allowed at that street/intersection.

Safety Cameras

I was hoping I could find someone to help me figure out how to work my Gps. I want to get the saftey camera feature working and I have had no luck! Do you know anything I could try?

Thanks Auggey

Intersections Test

Hi Donswam,

Please provide me your 2 intersections name, city and country.

I will do a little unit test.

Best regards

We'd have to know the make and model of your GPS first to determine if it's even capable, and then if so, we can tell you how.

Sounds like maybe it thinks

Sounds like maybe it thinks its a no left turn intersection?

Intersections Test

Hi Royy

The first intersection is in La Belle Florida, on route 80 (Palm Beach Blvd) and Bridge Street. I am going East on Rt 80 and the GPS wants to turn on Main Street and then right on Yeoman, followed by a left on to Bridge street, instead of just turning left on Bridge Street. I'am going from Naples to an address off of Route 78. The other intersection is in Naples Fl., US 41 and Rattlesnake Hammock Rd. There is a gas station on the northwest corner (about 1/4 mile from the intersection). I tell the GPS to go to La Belle, it says follow the route. I pull out on to 41 headed south, stop at the intersection to turn left. The GPS wants me to go .3 of a mile farther south and then turn left on Valley Stream Drive, follow that to Rattlesnake Hammock, then turn right on Rattlesnake Hammock, instead of just turning left on Rattlesnake. If I wait until I am at the intersection before I tell the GPS to go to La Belle, it will tell me to turn left on Rattlesnake Hammock.
