Nüvi Wishlist

It seems that Garmin (FANTASTIC customer support) does read posts in the Factory so I wonder if Miss POI would allow us to use this as a place to post what we would like to see "upgraded" or "changed" by Garmin.

I am still missing some of the "options" I had on my Magellan (HORRIBLE LOUSY CUSTOMER SUPPORT) RM860T... so I tried it again and once more I return to the Nüvi 760. I am still weighing the PLUS and MINUS between the units. I know the RM860T is now outdated and the 760 is new but I am NOT investing in another Magellan product (not with the Customer support they have).

If they care, and it seems they do, about their customers then maybe, just maybe, we could have some sort of impact on future upgrades.

For example:
Nüvi 760: For the most part, a fantastic unit.
- Option to display Time & Distance Remaining
- Pointer showing the direction of destination
- Limit number of POI alerts to 1 0r 2 per alert... try sitting in slow traffic... the alerts keep coming snd coming... an option to acknowledge and cancel current alert would be nice
- Option to change time of arrival to time remaining.

Email

I wanted to make sure that you are aware of Garmin's suggestion email address, which is suggestions@garmin.com. That might be a less roundabout way to let them know your comments... smile

What are your thoughts on the multiple waypoint routing? The main thing I'd like to see is a way to acknowledge the upcoming waypoint if I can't physically reach it, so the unit will then start giving directions to the next one. The only way to do that now is to drive towards the next destination until it gives up or delete the waypoint from the route. Both work but seem a little clunky. I'd also love to be able to reverse a route so I can get back home without having to re-enter it backwards.

Thanks

Thanks for the email, I was not aware of it. I will send them some thoughts. The advantage to posting in in a place like this is that one suggestion may bring up ideas for others (sort of like brain storming)

I find the multiple waypoint better than the Magellan, but you are correct, a way to acknowledge and "discard" the current upcoming waypoint would be a huge improvement.

Reverse route would be good but I would like to see even more... Artificial intelligence (Now I'm pushing it smile ) Once I have used a route in automobile mode, why not find a way to say... hey this road exists.... why not use it in future calculations.

I agree, fostering discussion is good.

Converting tracks to roads. TomTom has something like this with MapShare but I've seen reviews that say it isn't really all that great. Still, it would be nice to be able to update things. I've been submitting missing roads at http://mapreporter.navteq.com who are the ones that provide the map data for Garmin, Google, etc. I'd love to see a subscription based system from Garmin that would give us updates more frequently than once a year. NAVTEQ updates their maps constantly.

Wish list: 1. A way for us

1. A way for us to update the internal POI. Currently some of them are not correct.

Already started

The list had already been started, a looooog time ago:

Hmmm there are Sooooo many good discussions here. I missed that one.

I'll read the 4 pages worth and maybe add my own.

Thanks again.

EDITED:

Wow.. a fair bit of reading ahead of me. From the few that I read so far, it seems some of the suggestions have more or less shown up in the 7xx series

Waypoints

I'd like to see hidden waypoints or some way to select routes. However, I did find that I can select a road sign like I10W or I10E as a waypoint. Although the waypoint is announced you just drive right through it. I've used this trick to force route changes.

Waypoint

I agree I would like to see this as well.

upgrade 6xx to 7xx software...

Well my big wishlist is that there is no reason that the software features in the 7xx series shouldn't be an upgrade to 6xx owners. The additional features could easily run under the 6xx hardware platform. It would be like Microsoft not offering the Vista upgrade to WinXP owners that could benefit from it.

That's a "bad" on Garmin.

Running Altitude

I would like to see the altitude displayed as a running value on my 750.

Also I've never seen accuracy greater than 27 feet. Using the unit while walking I get the impression that it is not accurate enough for measurement in feet or for geocashing (which I haven't done). Several times it's jumped to a parallel road when that road is 130'+ away.

photo zooming icons

I am new here. Just bought 660 and liked it.

Hope its photo view screen has zooming icons automatically (bringing up the icons is pretty tricky).

It is called marketing. The c530 and c550 is basically the same thing except that the 550 can do bluetooth. The c530 even has a mic hole and the same board.

If at least they offered an upgrade exchange at a reasonable price, it would not be so frustrating.

Now I agree with that. I would love to have a qwerty keyboard.

Qwerty

On the 7xx the user can choose abcde or qwerty keyboard.
