Folding Nüvi antenna...

Has anyone ever had a problem with the folding antenna on a Nüvi breaking or wearing out over time from repeated opening and closing? Just wondering about the moving parts and electrical connections since I've had folding cell phone hinge problems over the years.

It could happen

I guess it could be a problem. Well for the first year, the warranty should fix it. I bought a extended warranty for Square Trade for another 2 years after that. So if I have a problem for the next 3 years, I can always get it fixed.

True. My credit card

True. My credit card automatically doubles any manufacturer's warranty for up to a year, so I should be covered for another year. I've had my 660 for a year now and by that point I should be ready for an upgrade.

A friend of mine...

...had one for ~1 year and it was still solid when I tried it out. So I assume it is good (unless you actually break it)

I found a site that shows

I found a aite that shows how to "mod" the antenna to stay flat and still operate, if you're really worried about wear and tear. http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=93007

Yeah, I've seen that mod

Yeah, I've seen that mod before. Kind of useless since the antenna has to be opened to use it in the car on the cradle anyway.

Reason To Keep It Closed

I think the purpose for wanting to keep it close is that some units have a "pedestrian" mode (at least my Nuvi 360 does) and I keeping the attenna tucked down makes more sense.

True, so does my 660. But I

True, so does my 660. But I still think the mod is useless. If I'm walking around with it, I set the backlight to time out after 30 sec and always close the antenna for maximum battery life. If I need to reference it, it only takes a few seconds to lock back on to the satellites.

With Square Trade yet? I just read many, many problems individuals have had with them after the fact and am concerned that the premium I am paying is for naught. Let me know so that if there are, we can urge people not to waste their money.

Hmmm it seemed like a good

It seemed like a good idea, the cost was cheap. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
