I just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 200w and I have a question.
I know that they come with maps already loaded and you can update them yearly I believe
But at what cost?

Sometimes your first upgrade is free,But only if you got it and register it with Garmin within so many months. So to answer your Question it is a variable cost. At one time Garmin quoted me $44 to upgrade..then I called back and it was free. I know this answer is Confusing..but Enjoy your new Nuvi and the dont worry..the maps that you have are good.

Even whether you get the upgrade free is variable. It seems to depend who you get ahold of at Garmin, what time of day, and whether the rep got up on the right side of the bed. If they say "it ain't free", just hang up and try again.

updated maps
You should have the latest updated maps.I would go to the web site http://www8.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp.Add it to your favorites on your computer and check every so often to make sure you do have the latest map update.
Look at http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp also.
