Garmin custom icons Question...

I recently made a new car graphic to match my car. Can I name the .srf file whatever I want to or do I have to name it after one currently in the Garmin database? And does the filename determine what name it display in the menu?

ahhhh.....

Not sure if you've "created" your own car graphic that includes the 72 PNG vehicle images side-by-side and then put into the proper srf format.

........Garmin StreetPilot c550 / Nüvi 765...........

yup

i converted one of their car .srf files to a png so i'd know how to lay it out and did mine on a new layer over the garmin original then deleted their layer and saved the png and reconverted back to .srf

now do i need to keep the filename the same or can i re-name it say My_Car.srf ? Will the unit just recognize the file type .srf or do i have to name with an icon name that Garmin's created and has available on their site? I'm not sure if the unit's firmware knows what the current available Garmin car styles and file names and will only recognize those names.

I'm having a similar question with a custom Voice file. Can i name it My_Voice.vpm or does it have to be like Dutch.vpm and I'd just replace the original with my new one.

I don't see how it could. If Garmin puts out a new vehicle on their website today and I haven't updated my firmware for 6 months I'm sure that it would work just fine. I can't see them writing it in such a way that they have to update the firmware for every unit that uses those vehicles every time they create a new one. But, having said that, my actual answer would be "I don't know." wink
