Here's a secret many people don't know. Except for a few items that are limited quantity items (like a special $400 laptop or something that the store only has 5 of), all black friday sale items are available on the web site.

What I do now is if there are black friday items I want, I just get up around 7am and order them on the web site. This works for Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Circuit City and more.

I would say to get up relatively early to get the web deals though, since the web site can sell out also.

Unless you're really hot-to-trot for the 660, wait until November 12th when the 680 will be available at Costco. They're selling the 650 for $299; my guess is that the 680 won't be more than $399, probably less. But I understand the bird-in-the-hand theory

actually, the costco $299 650 sold out in less than a day and is no longer available. Most web prices for the 650 are still close to $400 w/ shipping, tax.

I spoke with Costco about the 650, which I bought for $299.99 and have received. I was curious why it was gone in 1 day. They told me that they weren't suppose to release it until the 18th and it was pulled. Someone made a mistake and listed it early. They are re -releasing it on the 18th for the $299, so you will have another shot at it.

They're going to have more available after November 18th. Customer Service says they expect at the same price. But the 680 will be available sooner, price to be announced.

Does the 680 have all that many advantages over the 650??? It is time to upgrade my old C330.

Primarily, it's advantage is that it has bluetooth, which, with the mp3 palyer, makes it hands free,which the 650 is not. Also, I think the 680 comes with msn as well as the fm.

MSN is of no use in Winnipeg...or anywhere I drive outside of Fargo ND.

Bluetooth would be nice, but not for the extra $180 on the sale price.

The 680 is coming with bluetooth, FM traffic receiver (including 1 year free MSN Direct service), FM transmitter, AC charger and leather carrying case; the 650 does not, so you may want to do the math.

Costco now has a note on their site that the 650 is no longer available. I ordered mine on Saturday.

Just got the ad today - the Nuvi 650 will be available at Costco again on the 26th on their website.

Also they're already selling the 680, which is what I bought - for $480. They had it at my local store so I saved the couple bucks shipping. I'm not sure it's worth the extra $ though - the bluetooth is a really nice feature but the sound is too low. If I use the FM transmitter it's quite scratchy sounding and then I can't use the satellite radio. If only it had an audio input.

Fortunately they have an awesome returns policy - 90 days on electronics. If it doesn't pan out...

jimmy had an interesting point...I also have an XM unit and use the FM modulator to broadcast through my radio at 88.1. What freq choices does the Garmin units have?

And, of course, you won't be able to use the FM transmitters in both devices at the same time. You would have to choose one or the other. Or set them to different frequencies and then change between them.

My Nüvi 660 can be set to a number of frequencies. I am running at 88.9 now, and have a button on the radio set there.

If you have a radio with multiple FM bands (i.e. FM1, FM2) that can each hold 5 or 6 stations, use the 2nd FM band to store the two different freqs.

I just ordered mine online from BestBuy for 399.99+tax+4 year extended warranty. I was really really debating on the extended warranty, not a fan for such. After consideration of its portability, drops, falls, shakes, vibrations.... I broke down and let go of my $49.99.

By the way, I'm still in my worn out pajama. I don't like to fight with the crowd.

Excellent choice, right on point. My sentiments exactly. However, I don't waste money on the extended warranty. I just add it to my 'personal articles" policy of my Home Owners insurance. It has NO deductible and is covered for ANY loss, damage, theft, breakage, etc., and it costs me about $6 or $7 a year to add it to my Personal Articles floater. And..if it's damaged...I can always return it to Costco (the 680) anytime. What a deal!

Garmin has dropped their prices on some units as much as $500.00 in the last 20 months great for new buyers but a little sad for those of us who bought 20 months ago!

By the time I decided on late Thursday afternoon that the Nuvi 660 was the best deal for me, the Best Buy web site was already sold out. I just couldn't bring myself to get up on Friday morning and was resigned to have to wait for another sale. However, I got to my local Best Buy around 9:30am on Black Friday and, though the automotive accessory line was about fifteen people deep, I still managed to get a 660. I set it up as soon as I got back out to the parking lot and used it for the rest of the weekend. Very nice product with some minor shortcomings that have already been pointed out.

On a side note, there were a lot of GPS first-timers on the line with me. Most people were waiting for sub-$200 models that were on sale.

I paid $700 for my 660 11 months ago...

I bought mine at regular price on wednesday and then went back friday evening for price match $399.99.
As far as extended warrany, I do not think it was required for me. If something is wrong with unit, I will find it soon enough. Being purchased by credit card, we get additional one year warranty by default.

sometimes its the price you have to pay for being a 'cutting edge' user. one way to look at it, the unit has served you well for 11 months. right?

and that's electronics technology working, a few months down the road and the unit you just bought i already being replaced by a newer model.

Um, I was simply stating a fact. No where did I complain about the price. We all know they come down. And, in case you haven't noticed, there are several Nüvis out that are "greater" than mine.

I managed to snag one of the BBuy 660's and so far am quite happy with it. It's my first GPS and so I'm in the learning stages. So far have updated Garmin software, got them to send me a MapSource DVD, loaded some local POI's, and "cruising" Forums for knowledge

Picked one up from Best Buy - got a great deal - they price matched at $349.99

In any case, anyone know of a good protective clear plastic to put on the face and also a good rubberized case like the ones you get for iPods?

Visiter, the Nuvi's adjust their freq throughout the FM band, so you can adjust it over the whole range. Not limited to three or four freqs like some aftermarket modulators. The trick is finding the right one with no interference, that stays that way for awhile!

On pricing, I guess there always comes a point when electronics drop below that drop dead price that you thought you got. I was ecstatic to score my 660 for $499 back in July. For the longest time that price was the best anywhere. Oh well, I had the use of it for four or so months that I would have been without it, waiting for the better price...still though lol

One last thing, when I purchased my Garmin from Costco, the web site advised that they were not a Garmin authorized dealer. Anyone know how this impacts me? Garmin allowed me to regster it and has fully supported me with the Mapsource CD etc, even when I was honest and told them I bought it from Costco. Just curious if anyone had any problems in this regard?

The BestBuy sale was online Thursday for $399.99 and $499.99 on Friday. I ordered four on Thursday, recvd them Tuesday. I checked on Friday online, they were sold out. I only want an update for ONE thing.... saving routes to use over and over. (like from "home" to "college", "home" to "daughters house" etc)

Save only the addresses as favorites and let the little toy do its job -> finding the best route on a daily basis... otherwise, why spending the big bucks for?

I personally have found nobody can beat the performance of these screen protectors called WriteSHIELD... they are a little pricey but the value is unmatched. They install without bubbles like the ones at the retail stores because they are a thicker material and they last forever... well maybe not forever but I have never had to replace one of these due to normal wear and tear. Very durable and they come with a non-glare option if you prefer that over a shiny crystal clear look.

I must have been the one to order the last one on Best Buy's website. On a wim I went to their website on Thursday afternoon (Thanksgiving day) just to check the 660 out.

I saw the Check Price in cart link and the On Sale on the 660 web page. So I added it to my cart. Sure enough it was on sale $399. I thought it must have been a mistake. Went ahead an ordered it. After placing the order I went to Amazon to look up some accessories for the 660. Then I went back to the Best Buy 660 page after about 5 minutes of looking on the Amazon site and saw the "Sold Out" post.

So far the happiest purchase I made.
