Lost Info: gpi -> favorites

I created a 4-column csv file with addresses and phone numbers with the idea that I would add to my Garmin nuvi 660 favorites as needed for dialing.

It didn't work.

Once saved, the column-4 info (address and phone) isn't saved. I don't get it. ;-o

The file I used is in the pending queue. When published, it'll show up as Laughlin NV Casino Hotels. [It took Miss Poi about no time at all to publish and cross link the file: She's great, isn't she?]

Could it be numerals in column-3?

hmmm

POI Loader takes col-4 and sticks in either the 'comment' or 'description' fields of the .gpi file (i.e. equivalent of either <cmt> or <desc> from .gpx input. (difficult to say exactly which). It definitely does not put it in either the address or phone number fields.

The Favourites mechanism doesn't support either of those fields and so discards the info, when you do the 'SAVE' on the unit.

It would have needed to be in the equivalent of the gpx <gpxx:PhoneNumber Category="Phone"> field to be dialable.

You can't access that field via csv input to POILoader.

csv->gpx->gpi c-4 poof

OK, so if the gpi source file is a gpx and the wpt contains a properly marked phone number, it is saved to Favorites appropriately. Got it.

...and the csv column-4 data is discarded when saved as a favorite...poof.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Thanks.

I would tend toward the latter...that would make them roughly equivalent to the POI's that are built into the map in their functionality - but user tailor-able.

But, of course, I don't actually know smile
