Changes made from version 5.70 to 6.00:

Fixed problem with the same map existing in two regions
Fixed issue with backlight when position is north of the Arctic Circle
Fixed issue with ejecting device from a Mac computer
Fixed issue where the avoidance option 'Unpaved Road' was not being saved
Added notification to make reservation in advance at lodging establishments to receive discounts with Savers Guide
Fixed street name display with special characters (l', d')
Fixed issue with saving settings when Locale is selected as 'Other'
Fixed issue where road name was sometimes used instead of highway number
Added traffic support for UAE and Australia
Imporved MSN synchronization time
Updated the locations of the Garmin waypoints

Thanks for the heads up!

I kept checking Garmin's site for the update. It's still listed as being dated April 11 on the main page, but shows October 12th when clicking on the April 11th date.

Got my c580 updated!

Any significant changes?

Have you spotted anything to justify the change in version number from "5" to "6"? (Nothing in the list above seems in that league...).

When they went from "4" to "5" they changed the entire look and feel...but didn't mention the fact in the maintence log.

Thanx for the info I just updated my C580. I noticed on another post that the Nuvi can display coordinates and wondered if the StreetPilot series can do the same and if so, how?

No Can Do

The Streetpilots do not show the coordinates like their Nuvi brothers can. A Garmin rep told me that they don't have that functionality as they are the 'lower end' of their product lines, whereas the Nuvis are in the middle area and have more functions than the SP series.

Thanks!

Thanks for letting us know about the update... bring on those dirt roads!

I don't know why they couldn't allow the C5xx to see the coordinates. The info is obviously in the unit, it seeems to be just a matter of enabling it to be displayed.

low end?

Hi Asian,
I own a C580 and I do not consider it as a low end unit. It does just about anything you can think of. It just isn't thin like the Nuvi's. The Nuvi's are probably more popular due to their thin form factor but I feel my C580 is every bit as good.

New to GPS community

I just got my streetpilot c550. I think its great and not all the low end. it does everything you could possible need. I have no worries about. Its definitely not a low end gps. Its not thin but still looks great.

I agree! i dont feel that

I agree! i dont feel that c5xx series are "low end". Just different. I think that there are low ends within the series. A 510 is lower then a 550, etc. The nuvis do the same.

Nuvis and Streetpilots each have their strong and weak points.
