FREE 2008 City Navigator NT offer just showed up on myGarmin page??

A couple of months ago when everyone was trying to get the free 2008 City Navigator NT maps, I tried and failed. After several friendly emails back and forth to Garmin, the tech said for me to fax my receipt. After doing that, he came back and said their policy was 60 days and mine was within 90 days. As everyone knows here, that XX days is a moving target it seems.

So I accepted the fact that I wasn't one of the lucky ones. Back then, when I logged into my.garmin.com, there was an option to purchase the map update. This morning I just logged on to myGarmin and there was an offer for FREE Map Update 2008 City Navigator® North America NT. So I filled out the form and we'll see what happens.

Anyone else see this on myGarmin and know if I'll actually get a free update CD? Has something changed in the past couple of months and I'm now eligible?

Not that I know of, that is

Not that I know of, that is weird...don't call Garmin and ask, "Why do I now get it free" LOL.

Yes I just recived my free up date 2 weeks ago

I just called a friend that

I just called a friend that bought the identical Nuvi 350 a week before me and his myGarmin says $69. That's what mine said until I logged on today.

Believe me, I'm not calling Garmin and asking them why smile

Keep Trying

It seems Garmin has a 'Guideline'; and it appears to be a 'Floating Guideline'. The consensus here was if you bought your GPS before May, 2007, you were out of luck. I bought my nuvi350 in January, 2007, and obtained a free v2008 Map.

Several adages come to mind:
"Don't never say never."
"The squeaky wheel is the one that gets greased."

The point is, you can't loose anything by trying. You just may get the v2008 free.

Yes, I saw the same thing about 3 weeks ago and I also filled out the form. I'm still waiting to see what happens so I can't say if you (or I) should be getting a free update.

There is another adage that follows the one above. "Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets removed, and a new one put on"
That's what they would say at work.

BTW, I went to the Map Update web site, entered my serial number, and was told I too would get the free update.
I tried, so now just have to hang loose and see what transpires.

Free V2008

Congrtulations !

It always great to get something good you did not expect.

I was not anywhere near the cutoff for an update since I had my 2730 & 7500 for over a year. But I was NOT expecting to have to buy TWO updates.

It still makes me fume.... but I went ahead and did it.

Now I wonder if they have sort of given a little on that policy as well ?

I'm almost afraid to look.....

I can reproduce free order, but... bad luck follows

Here is the result of me poking around the Garmin site. At first it did not give me the free optionn. It directed me to $69.99 page. Then I navigated through My Garmin place in few pages and here is the resulting redirection to the free ones:

So... you guys judge. I can reproduce this many, many times as I want, but I never get to the free order submitted page...

I guess it is just bad luck!

What?

That may be true; but I fail to see what effect that would have in this case. If you're not getting the free update anyway, what have you got to loose? What can they remove if there's nothing to remove?

You have to use common sense. "Bitching won't do any good; polite complaining will."

nice, i just ordered a disk

nice, i just ordered a disk too

This is also happening to me

This is also happening to me and I have spent 79.99 for my update... Darn it...

2008 City Navigator NT

Is this the same map as a couple of months ago that I just purchased??

I went to the site any put in my S/N and it came back no updates. So, I presume that is because I purchased that they were calling the v8 update. Hopefully that is the same as the 2008 update they are pushing now.

I think it depends on when

I think it depends on when you register too-I bought mine in April and got the update. Since nobody was real sure what the grace period was I didn't register until I knew the update was shipping. They were nice enough to send me the update although it took a while since they were backordered. What kills me is there is an orchard downstate from me that's been around for 50 years and it's not listed. Went to KY over Labor day and the year old Wal Mart isn't in the "new" listings either.

Received my update

Received my update yesterday. No cost involved.

Online failed, rep moved order ahead...

Hi all,

Just did my online thing again (see the previous post) and finally decided to call a rep. Jim was the name. He said he will move my order ahead. Gave me Order # and everything.
Said it is on back order, so I have to wait for a few weeks, but I'm willing to wait, since it is FREE...
