Oh yeah!!!! Who is going to be "The First"?

RT,
You are very much right. After all these hassle with v4.90, atleast I feel hesitant to try to update.

v5.00 fixed the communication problem with MapSource. No noticeable new problems with v5.00. I refuse to use Webupdater , so another will have to comment on that.

Re: nuvi350 Update v5.0

Geesh RT!

I'm still not sure why there's an upgrade at all. Version 4.90 was an upgrade from 4.60 to "Change volume maximum," whatever that meant.

Now it's the same thing all over again with the addition of correcting a bug Garmin introduced in 4.90. But what advantage is there to the end user? Have they actually inreased the maximum amount of data that is able to be stored on the nuvi volume? Anyone know?

All that being said, I'll probably go ahead and take the plunge tomorrow when I have the time to devote to it if anything goes wrong again.

Web Updater

I used Web Updater to V5.0. No issues as yet. I'll post if it acts buggy later this week after I log several 100 miles on a business trip.

The nuvi volume is the same

The nuvi volume is the same size , but you can delete all the foreign language voices and help. It frees up lots of nuvi storage. Also if you downloaded lots of vehicles delete all but the one you use. All the others just waist large amounts of space.

No Probs

v5.0 went ok. I assumed the volume they're talking about is the audio volume, not 'storage' volume.

Nuvu 350 V5.00

Update seems fine.

Still no Linebreak fix

The Custom POI linebreak display problem on the nuvi350 still isn't addressed with v5.0. Three new updates and still no fix? Garmin????

Storage Volume

Storage Volume can't be changed, so the previous poster is absolutely right. The only way to change the volume size is to replace hardware internally. Anyone wanting to take their nuvi apart and try? =)

problem reported to Garmen???

has anyone reported this problem to Garmin?

Yes, I reported it way back during the first of this year when we first discovered the problem, and again about a month ago. Both times I even sent them a fix. Although they were not aware of the problem originally, both times they said they could verify it and were sending it to Engineering.

Nuvi 350 update

I updated mine but after the update applied, my screen went all crazy and wasn't centered any more. However, after I turned the unit off and back on again, everything seems fine and I verified the new update is installed. So we'll see how it goes from here.

Nuvi 5.0 Update

Updated today and no problems so far. Used WebUpdater and all went well.

Re: nuvi350 Update v5.0

Ok, I took the plunge and upgraded.

Everything seems to be working fine. Both POI Loader and WebUpdater for the Macintosh seem ok.

Still no effort from Garmin to give the Macintosh versions of their software the same functionality as the Windows version.

Anyone ever hear from Garmin as to why they refuse to support the Mac to the same extent as Windows?

If you had the opportunity to sell wooden pencils costing a dollar apiece to two billion people with an IQ averaging about 100, or sell mechanical pencils costing you a dollar and a half each, to a few hundred thousand people with an average IQ of 130, where would you put your resources?

OK... I threw the IQ thing in there for sarcasm... I have no proof our IQ is higher simply because we use Macs, but you get the point (pun).smile

As far as the upgrade goes, the first rule with anythng having to do with computers, including GPSs is... if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So far, everything is working for me, so I'll wait until a major upgrade or a problem appears.

Any new visible differences between generation 4 and 5?

Nuvi350 Update V5.0... ": (

Ok... updated my Nuvi350 and the screen messed up after I disconnected it from the usb. I waited a couple of minutes and powered it off and on. Now when I turn it on I get "System Software Not Found"... tried a master-reset and the reset button with the same results...

I'm guessing this isn't something I can fix myself.

Why update Nuvi 350 from 4.6 to 5.0?

So many people jumped at the chance to update to 4.9 without really knowing what it did for the 350. Ok, now that Garmin has fixed the bug in 4.9 with 5.0, has anyone found out what the fix in 4.9 was all about? Garmin says the 4.6 to 4.9 update "Changed volume maximum." What was wrong with volume maximum? Are they referring to the memory volume maximum or the sound volume maximum. Does this change mean the 350 now officially supports 4 or 8 GB SD memory? Or was the sound not loud enough? Distorted? Obviously they felt it was beneficial to issue a fix.

Same here...

Same here. As mentioned before in one of the previous posts the screen messed up, but after a while (20 seconds approximately) showed the greeting screen and was quite alright.

Frankly speaking Garmin are quite hush-hush about what was updated. I myself am a release manager of our products and I know how it is. Sometimes the updates are not to be fully revealed, though the product is actually turned around in sense of security or performance. Or there is a major fix of a problem, which is not obvious and rarely messes up, but it has to be fixed. Visually though the product looks the same. I guess this must be the case with the firmware of nuvi 300/350.

I can tell a difference in volume.

Yeah, I upgraded mine to 5.0 and when I disconnected it, I went "OHHHHHHHH SHHHHH**" right at work, obviously they knew that I wasn't working...lol. Mine screen went blue and that was it. I did a reset (the button) and it has worked fine since.

I can tell a HUGE difference in the Max Volume. It use to distort really bad, and now it doesn't. It is nice. However, I dont see a huge difference between the next level down and max volume. So perhaps they just reduced the volume level where it wouldn't distort.

Thanks for the heads up

Thanks for the update!

5.0 went fine

5.0 went fine - seems to me that the volume is just how asianfire described it. When I first got my Nuvi with version '4.7' on it - the volume would distort the speaker when it was set to max. Now it doesn't, so they probably just set the maximum output lower in the software. Just a guess. Seems like a lot of trouble for something you could just turn down one notch! smile But I guess the original engineers wanted it to go to 11...

I still use the one level down from the max

First I updated online. Then

First I updated online. Then I used the webupdater. Not sure if I was just updating the same thing. Anyway, after the web updater the display was messed up. Sort of tiles (setting wallpaper to title on windows). Luckily a reset fixed it. I was scared since I just got my Garmin. Anyway, everything is working great after that little incident.

Did you use the volume hack to adjust your volume prior to the 5.0 update?

Update to 5.0

I just updated my fathers new 350. It had the 4.8 code. His had no problem during the process. So far, so good.

I did notice his unit came with the 2008 maps preloaded.

Garmin website update

Yes, I bought mine about 3 weeks ago and when I registered, I was given the option to update via their MyGarmin website which I did and it went without a hitch. I didn't use the earlier version so I don't know if there was any improvement in performance or information but I haven't had any problems with the maps. I hope this helps you.

update problem

All these people and no problems, I must be special. I just got my 350 a few days ago. It's preloaded with 4.9. As I read webupdater would not find the 350 and mine was as advertised. I downloaded 5.0 and now poi loader gets error message saying problem loading try again. However it does download the info just doesn't say finished when it's finished. As I stated it loaded my poi update just tells me problem loading try again.

Nuvi 350 update

I just updated mine today and my screen went all crazy too. Turned the unit off and back on and every thing was fine. Except it didnt update the software. It now says 4.0 ? I tried it again with no problems with the screen but the 350 still says 4.0 . I guess i will call customer support on Monday.

SD Issue

Am I the only one who after updating to firmware v5.0 my SD cards stopped working.

If I have my Sd card (a sandisk 1g and a kingston 4g both worked previously) in the nuvi when I boot it, it gets to "loading maps" and freezes, if at this point I remove the card, it continues without a problem.

Does this happen with both the 1 GB and 4 GB SD card? The reason I was wondering is because according to Garmin's website, the nuvi 350 only supports a 2GB SD card max.
