I like dirt roads and we have quite a few around here. Many are in great condition and even allow fairly high speeds. They make for great drives off the beaten, paved path.
I have a Garmin C580, updated.
The problem I am having is that when I uncheck unpaved roads in avoidances, it reverts back to being checked when I turn the unit back on. This happens whether I have fastest time or shortest distance checked.
I have a 4x4 truck... why doesn't Garmin want me to drive in the dirt!? Any help would be appreciated.

That happened to me before
That happened to me before and I just did a reset and that worked for me.

No Luck
I tried the reset (twice) but the problem remains. I was going to call Garmin for a copy of Mapsource anyway, so I'll kill two birds with one phone call.

Gravel roads
I had the reverse problem, my 680 put me onto gravel evan though I have checked to avoid them.

This change was intentional...
...when I uncheck unpaved roads in avoidances, it reverts back to being checked when I turn the unit back on.
but I don't know why they think C5xx owners want to avoid unpaved roads and Nüvi owners don't !!
See http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3597>
Near the bottom, it says:
Changes made from version 5.20 to 5.30:

.Set default avoidance setting for unpaved roads

Fix coming soon
I just got off the phone with Garmin. They say it's a known issue and it was not intended to work that way. It should be fixed in the next update.

I don't know.

The same reason why C5xx users don't want to go off road and Nuvi users do...lol
