Inaccurate mapping directions

I have a Nuvi 660 and recently I have noticed that my unit has been giving me wrong directions (it had me drive right through the middle of a mall, on a route I use everyday)Any thoughts?

yeah ... go around the mall next time!

you may also want to try a reset on your Nuvi

I followed the road sign to

I followed the road sign to the airport on Friday, and my Nuvi 350 said I was taking a shortcut through an empty field. Jill kept telling me to get back on the road.

Is it a new mall? Was there a road that used to go through?

do you have the most current maps?

The road you took could be new - more recent than the maps you have.

Or, it could be something NavTeq missed. You can report such errors on the NavTeq website.

NavTeq Corrections

I tried to submit a correction request to NavTeq several months ago via their site and, after multiple attempts with the site not responding or just sitting there churning, finally gave up. It shouldn't be that difficult.

Make sure that you have

Make sure that you have fastest time and that your vehicle is set to car/motorcycle. make sure that your avoidances are set right.

THanks for the feedback

I think it may have been a one time thing because this morning it sent me the right direction (not through the mall, which is an older mall). The big test will be tonight when leaving work. Last night it routed me down a dead end street. I am hoping yesterday was jsut some sort of glitch. I'll keep folks posted.

Was it a drive-through mall?

ON bad directions

I found all kinds of unuseable directions in a place known as Dumbo in Brooklyn New York. This area under the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridge has become fashionable, and is alway under change.

Map direction

My NUVI 360 sometimes show that I am traveling through uncharted routes when I will be actually be travelling on the highway. Happens even after resetting of the device.

My experience

I had daymares, afternoonmares and nightmares yesterday with my Nuvi 680. I was in my "security location" but the unit remained locked. Good enough I remember my passcode. When I entered the code, I saw it placed the car at least 2 blocks away from the location. I had a meeting downtown Chicago, driving from Hyde Park. It gave me wrong directions throughout, always "recalculating" since it could not properly locate the vehicle. The screen showed what was to be the route, with the purple color indicating the route. As I traveled on, the car was shown outside those purple lines, as if I ignored the route. I was driving on US 41 (Lake Shore), but it showed the car on the green grass beside the Lake. I was on the road, yet it kept recalculating as if I was still 2 blocks from the road. It was all sorts of mares (afternoon/night). My luck was that I had tried the route earlier in the day and faintly remembered the route which it showed then. By the time I undertook the trip, the GPSr was in a world of its own. On my return trip, it located me further away from the road. It placed the vehicle some 4 or 5 streets from US 41, always bumping me into some dead ends, asked me to make U-turns, make a turn into an alley, turn in "street", trying to prevent me from driving through some walls. By the time I turned off US 41 around the 51st street, it assumed I was on 47th. When I drove on, on 51st street, it assumed I was on 53rd and kept telling me to take some turns so I could get to 51st.
After a night rest, it started behaving well again this morning. I could not but wonder what would have happened if it was one of those out of town trips to unknown places. I would have stopped at a gas station to ask for directions, with a GPSr in my hand. Great advertisement for GPSrs.
"Recalculating" by Jill is my latest song.

sun spots..

from http://www.spaceweather.com/

AURORA WATCH: Earth is exiting one solar wind stream that sparked bright auroras over the weekend. Another solar wind stream is on the way, due to arrive Sept 27th. High latitude sky watchers should remain alert for Northern Lights.

Solar Flares, Geomagnetic Storms all have effects on rf signals

Then again, maybe it's something else. LOL

Officer I'm sorry I was going the wrong way on that one-way street but my GPS told me to turn left ... Oh, I'm still getting a ticket, okay then the GPS will see ya in court!

Routing

Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems that I am getting a lot more of those goofy routes and bad address locations now that I've updated my 2730 and also installed CN V.2008.

I just went somewhere yesterday and needed the GPS and it took me to the address but it was off by 1/4 mile.

It also has taken me several different ways home when I KNOW another route is faster and more direct.

I think I'll try doing a hard reset.

Tim

I don't believe that a reset

I don't believe that a reset is going to help, that is just the way the maps are sometimes.

weird directions

I've experienced something similar to that, it would tell me to make a U turn in the middle of the route. So I ordered the updated '08 maps last week and Garmin says that they're back ordered till middle of next month... argh!

Do you have Jill or Jack giving the directions. I find Jill to be quite moody during certain times of the month.

Culprit: Jill or Jack

Jill is the culprit. Maybe I should switch to someone less moody. Thanks.

crazy directions

Last saturday I was traveling home from Florida. I decided to stop overnight at a Hampton inn in Bluefield WV. My c330 directed me to an exit where I saw a sign for the motel. It then directed me to take a route 3+ miles up a winding road in the dark. Icouldn't believe the number of hairpin curves on the way up and a similar number on the way down. At the top of this mountain I could see a town below. I felt I was in a plane. At the bottom of the mountain the gps took me in a large circle around town. After the second trip around I noticed a Holiday Inn and stopped for the night. What a crazy trip!! In the morning it led me out of town on a main route.

Could this have been the old Dixie Square Mall?

You've got me thinking this is where Jake & Elwood Blues drove through the Mall in Harvey Illinois back in 1980.

You can walk a horse to water, but a pencil has to be led.

I don't see the difference

I don't see the difference if you use one voice or the other. The different voices do not control the logic of routing, they simply translates what the GPSr routes into an audible voice, right?

Asianfire, I'm going out on a limb here....

But Im 99% sure bak276 & JCMilan were makin' funnies there Re; Jill and her possible Pms:))

No funnies

This is not an attempt to be funny. If it happened right after purchase, I would certainly have returned it. The GPSr should not be doing such. If I did not know my way, I could have been lost.
