Came back from a road trip in CO over the long weekend. I loaded up the various POI files from here before the trip. Since time was kind of tight did not really get a chance to make use of the POIs contained in these files. I was hoping some of these would pop up in my display as I drive. None did
We started out from Denver, went down to Colorado Springs and drove west to Salida via Royal Gorge and then drove up to Aspen via St. Elmo and Independence Pass. Then we dropped by Vail before returning to Denver by Rt 70.
I did not get a whole lot of chance to experiment with my 370. But had some observations.
I wish the unit showed more information about the surrounding area we were driving through such as mountain ranges and peaks in vicinity
I am also one of those people who like to see more info on screen including relevant POIs such as hotels, gas stations etc. without having to zoom into the most detailed view.
A better way to see the whole route the unit is planning instead of turn by turn. It really gets hard to review the route when you are driving gradual zooming out seemed cumbersome. I found myself looking at a paper map to get a larger view of the route it is suggesting. Sometimes it was not obvious where we will end up on an intersecting highway etc.
A easier way to ask it take a certain highway.
A quicker search of POIs along the route by name search. Sometimes name search does not yield anything even though i can find it by direct lookup at some later point.
It is hard to specify "near.." something when you are driving on a wide open interstate in southwest
I guess it is a bad practice to fiddle with the GPS while driving anyway but we did not clearly know all places we wanted to stop or go before we started the trip. It was kind of a see as we go kind of trip.
A more intuitive and easy info/data lookup & navigation would have helped.
Since this is my first travel trip with the unit may be i just need to figure out the ideal style for me.
I don't know how other GPS units are in terms of info content richness and presentation. May be the routing capability of the new 7* series would have been nice. I should have waited before buying my 370
