Better Route !!!

Hi,
Today while driving on I-85 North in NC towards I-81, my Nuvi350 roared "better alternative route found" or something like that and small icon popped up. when I touched that icon, it asked me if I would like to go new found route. I touched "YES" and it gave me direction to use I-95 which was a terrible choice because of heavy traffic that time of the evening. My question is "does anybody know how to select the previously given direction?"

My guess would be to stop the current routing and re-select the destination and let the unit re-route to it.
Better route
My 350 has displayed the same message also (on a different route). From what I have learned, the nuvi is constantly looking for better routes. It leans toward using interstates whenever possible, but will recalculate to using state highways at times based on your driving habits (which it also is constantly learning).
I believe that Motorcycle Mama is correct in stating that you must stop the current route once you selected the "alternate route" and start a new one. However, my guess would be that the gps would now recalculate to the new "better" route instead of the old one that you were driving. To get around this, 1)I would then push the "detour" button and see where it would direct you. Or 2) you could set your old preferred route as a via.

It might be because I-85 doesn't connect with I-81.

Could Traffic Monitor cause re-routing?

But I-85 does connect with I-95 in VA.
Question - was there any sort of traffic monitor that might have determined that 95 had fewer delays? I was on 85 yesterday (3 September) heading south in the morning and north in the late afternoon. There was considerable traffic (due to accidents) on the northbound side.

Learning? Are you serious??
I never read that the Nuvi (or any other GPS) actually "learned/adapted" to your driving preferences. Is this for real??
Learning
There is a file called "user data" that keeps track of many different things including your driving habits, for example: average speed on interstates, highways, local roads, etc. It takes this data in consideration when calculating routes. This is why a "better route has been found" shows up occasionally. This file also can get corrupted easily and is one of the first things that support will have you clear when problems with your gps arise. It can be cleared in the maintenance menu.

Happend to me

When going home when I first got my garmin #7200 it would alway take me home the long way. when I would make a right turn to take the short cut the gps would say recalculating recalculating. After doing this for about twenty times the gps told me to take a right turn taking the short cut. It,s been doing this ever since. Go Figure.

User Data
is favorites lists and custom POIs...I have yet to see any documentation that a Nuvi can 'learn' a user's driving habits. If you know of a source to the documentation that such a function exists, I'd be delighted if you were to point me to it. Thanks.

I don't know about the nuvi line, but the Zumo is definitely programmed to learn a usage pattern and speed pattern as it is used.

This is taken directly from my old 2620 owner's manual (pg 51):"as you continue to drive with your StreetPilot, it remembers and stores your driving habits and that you can optimize the custom route preferences based on your driving habits by selecting the Auto Set button. For example, if you tend to drive slower than expected on minor roads, then the Auto Set option should move the Minor Road Category preference bar towards Avoid to cause the unit to avoid these roads even more than normal."
I just read my nuvi manuals and did not see this mentioned. I guess that I assumed that it was still built in. Sorry about any misrepresentation on the nuvi line.

Learning would be great
I wish my Nuvi 660 would learn my driving habits and routes better. It is forever trying to get me to take the most congested way home every day.

That was not the question !
My guess would be to stop the current routing and re-select the destination and let the unit re-route to it.
My question was not re-selecting destination or re-routing. It was about "How to go to the previously selected route?" which was lost when I chose the Best Route given by my Nuvi350 later while travelling.

Isn't the previous destination where you were headed on the previously selected route?
Nuvi remembers speed

I'm sure the Nuvi does remember speed travelled on class of road. When I first got mine, the ETA was way off, then it bacame fairly accurate. And if I go into simulate, the traveled speeds vary; today it will be different from last week on the exact same highway. I'm sure it's not changing that randomly.
I wish it would remember road usage, though. I frequently travel the same areas, it would be nice if it would give me my preferred route.
Still trying to figure out where I-85 comes even close to I-81!

WindChill, you can't go back to the previous selected route once you have chosen the new one. I gave you your options above under my title "Better Route."

Lot of Thanks to all of you guys for responding to my concern and sharing your experiences.

Mine said
Mine said the same thing "better alternative route found", but no small icon popped up.
I couldn't figure out how to select it, so I continued the way I was originally going.
I might try what MM suggested...stop the current route and see if something pops up for me to select the new route - if I can do all that without driving off the road.

You have to take I-77 to get from I-85 to I-81.
My nuvi doesn't do that.
My nuvi doesn't do that. Mine simply recalculates automatically if I continue to the previous route.
--------- Bloody Garmin, those features in Nuvi 7xx should have been incorporated in Nuvi 6xx!!!
