Free Music Streaming

Today while waiting for my wife while I remained in the car the only local classical music station and the only local jazz station bored me. Both of them generally maintain my interest but aren't special. When they "fail" me my usual goto has been streaming BBC-3 for classical music. Since last summer they ceased covering North America (or maybe just the USA?). For classical music I fall-back to CPR (Colorado Public Radio) and WQXR. I have no jazz fall-back. Does anyone have any recommendations?

This isn’t free,

but you can get some decent deals on Sirius XM. I am getting it for about $80.00 a year and it has pretty much any kind of music that you would want to listen to. Plus, no commercials. I have it in both of my vehicles. I recently took a trip up through New England and didn’t have to change or search for a different station once.

When we had the Buick Enclave I had gotten 3 years for $99, $127 with royalties and taxes, and thought it was good. It expires 1/2/26 and they offered to extend it, but only month to month.

We got a new vehicle in August, which came with 3 mos free. We extended it for $2 for 3 mos, or $2.12 out the door.

The third vehicle seems to be free for life as haven't paid in 5.5 years.

So I would definitely approach XM and say I would this is what I would like:

1. Free for life
2. $0.70/mo including taxes and fees
3. $3,53/mo including taxes and fees

All based on what I am actually and have actually paid (not made up numbers). And if they say no, then that's ok don't need it

Me it's because the wife likes it in her vehicle and hers is new so it has all the channels (mine stops at 200 or something). And I stream at the gym and listen with my son. at 8 y.o. he knew more tunes than most Deadheads did (like Weather Report Suite), thanks to XM

Sirius has another benefit

I think I've posted this before but another thing you can do if you have a Sirius subscription is use it in the home. For example, I use an old iPad connected to Sirius and Bluetooth the content to my in-home stereo system. Even if you have an older stereo that is not Bluetooth equipped, a simple cable from the headphone jack of the iPad to my tape/aux input works well.

A couple of streams from P/NW

Here are a couple of jazz streams that originate from the Pacific/Northwest:

Jazz 24 (Seattle)
https://www.jazz24.org/

PubJazz (Boise)
https://www.boisestatepublicradio.org/show/pubjazz

https://directory.shoutcast.c

While on the topic of streaming

...there is a little know source for audio content called the Radio Garden at https://radio.garden/listen/wrti-hd1-classical/AKT4ksN2. This site allows you to pick and chose from numerous world wide sites. For instance do you want to listen to Irish music direct from Dublin? It can be done. Are you Italian, want to brush up on your linguistic skills; that too is easy to do.

The link likely will open at Philadelphia but it is easy to change the source.

just tried

to cancel the XM that was 3 years $99 = $127 as it is good through 1/2/26.

The chat bot is called Harmony. Said can't cancel it, is there anything I can help you with hahahahahahaha

When I check online, it seems to be a roadblock to folks who are used to negotiating to the < $5/mo plans.

I don't need this plan anymore because we got 3 more mos for $2.12 out the door on the newer vehicle, we don't have the one anymore that has the $99 for 3 years plan. Also, I can use the newer vehicle's login to stream. Not sure what will happen when that is up for renewal at $30/mo, Harmony again?

Great deals can be had if you seek them

Cancelling through a human (live chat/call/email maybe?) usually nets you great deals because Sirius would rather have less of your money every month than to have $0 of your money every month. Just threaten to cancel and see what happens!

hope quoting doesn't misquote we'll see

Yes btw I hope this post looks right as I am quoting (doesn't it mix things up and people say I didn't say that).

I feel that when you talk to a human, whatever deal you have right this instant at the time of the call, is a leg to stand on, they can either continue it, or, not. Right now we have 3 mos for $2. $2.12 with tax. Come February, I want that, or cancel. Being told I can't cancel by Harmony isn't gonna fly.

Why $2 for 3 mos is nothing special, is as mentioned, one vehicle has been free since 8/20. So if one car is free, $2 for 3 mos. is way more than that. Also, with the $99 for 3 years, they did in fact offer to continue at that rate. The catch was that the service COULD NOT be transferred to a different radio, and we no longer have the Buick Enclave, it was destroyed. To add clarity, apparently when I signed up, the $99 for 3 years (there was also 5 years available), was not cancellable for a refund like most plans, but was transferable. I must have agreed to this in the fine print, they're not cheating me.

We like the service and again my son knows a lot of tunes as a result of streaming and hearing his dad sing in the cars.
