There was a thread a few weeks back about misplaced gift cards. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/54566
Something related, and this depends on where you live and grocery shop, is the ability to purchase a gift card at a local grocery and have it possibly yield a considerable discount to a gasoline purchase. As an example, here in SE Pennsylvania we have Giant grocery stores and Giant gas stations. This week they have 10X rewards with the purchase of a card at Panera. So I can purchase a $50 Panera card and I’ll get 50 cents off per gallon of gas at a Giant gas station. The offerings vary and sometimes there may be a fee and those you should avoid. They are usually the “generic” Mastercard or Visa.
The impact can be substantial. In July I purchased a $100 Home Depot card at Giant. The wife did her usual grocery shopping also earning points. Near the end of July she purchased about 15 gallons of gas at over $2 off per gallon.
You do have to watch the rewards points as they expire monthly.
We have Kroger here in SW Ohio
And they do the same thing only they limit you to $1.00 off per gallon. However, you can get as many points as you want throughout the month. You are just limited to using 1000 points at a time. (Which translates to $1.00 off.) I personally don’t use the points since I stick to TopTier gas in both of my vehicles, but my grandson uses them up every month. Around the middle of the month I will get either a text or a call asking how many points do you have. In a couple of days I will check and he has already used as many points as possible.

Top tier or bust

yes
We pretty much only use Costco. When the car can't get over to NJ and it needs premium, rather than paying 60 cents more per gallon, I do Conoco 91. CA only has 91 so it will suffice, 30 cents more per gal. Both top tier. I would avoid unbranded gasoline like Wawa etc. That convenience just might cost an engine.
I found 3 more gift cards, because were were at the hockey store on Saturday and I remembered my brother gave my son a $50 card. Upon finding it, I found 2 amazon cards which I said oh I bet these are used. The ser# are exposed on both. Wouldn't scan with the app.
OH, because that ser# was for the person to purchase it. Had to peel for the gift card numbers. Found 2 x $50. We really ought to be more careful in our household.

Costco and Wawa both get their gasoline from "other" sources.

Costco most likely is Top Tier

Costco gas is an approved TopTier gas (see https://www.toptiergas.com/gasoline-brands/). But Top Tier states to always look for the sticker on the pump designating the product as Top Tier. It is arguable what the designation really gets you. I’ve worked in refineries for close to 50 years as an mechanical engineering consultant. Yes it got you a premium additive package that was consistent from brand to brand and met the requirements of auto manufactureres like Toyota, Honda, etc. But it was also said that a key factor was it lined the pockets of the Top Tier organization..
