Will Google Go Away?

Soon, you may not be able to "Google" something. It could become "Bling" something or "yahoo" something.

Lots of unanswered questions about the fallout, including what will happen to Gmail.

not about search

The headline and 1 sentence abstract from this morning's New York Times:

"U.S. Proposes Breakup of Google to Fix Search Monopoly

In a landmark antitrust case, the government asked a judge to force the company to sell its popular Chrome browser."

I haven't been following this carefully, but it isn't about search.

Didn't realize people still

Didn't realize people still use chrome. I use it mainly as a tertiary browser. Way too much telemetry to be primary.

Firefox and librewolf (fork of firefox) are the main browsers. For a chromium based browser there's brave and vivaldi (among others). I use vivaldi as its fairly feature rich with lots of settings options.

One thing I absolutely hate about any chromium browser (the above 2 included), is you can't easily transport the profile. Elements such as saved passwords don't get saved. With firefox it's simple. Copy the entire profile folder over, done.

I don't expect anything (yet) to happen to google search.

Feds want the works

The filed targets amount to mass destruction of what makes Google Google. What the actual eventual outcome will be is really it a lot of doubt.
