VV Mapping works great on a Garmin, but it only covers a few states.
onX Offroad Maps works with CarPlay/Android Auto, but seems to miss some ATV/UTV trails.
Polaris Ride Command is free. It will track the location of other riders in a group ride, if there is a data connection. It also shows property owner names.
When my wife and I go ATV/UTVing, we like the following features:
-The location of parking to access the trails.
-Knowing that the trail is legal for whichever vehicle we are using. Minnesota is a state that has Class 1 and Class 2 ATV/UTVs.
-Knowing that the road route we are on allows ATV/UTVs.
-POIs, like fuel and food, that can be accessed (legally) from the ATV/UTV trail/route we are traveling on.
So far, the best solution that my wife and I have come up with is using two maps. If we are each on our ATVs, she will use Polaris Ride Command and I will use VV Mapping. Generally speaking, most of the time they will agree with one another. When there is a conflict, it can be concerning. For example, if one shows a trail as snowmobile only and the other shows that it allows ATV operation. Then, the question will be, which is correct? Some places are good about signage and others, not so much.
The good thing about VV Mapping on my Garmin Zumo XT is that if/when we need fuel or want food, I can switch to Garmin City Navigator North America and often find them.
We have also been disappointed to find something on Garmin that has been closed. We end up using Google Maps to find the most current gas stations or restaurants.
I do hear Avenza Maps mentioned fairly often. I may have to give those a try.
Does anybody on here have experience with off-road trail maps?
Does anybody have any other activities that they participate in that seems to need more than one map either for planning ahead of time or while navigating in real time?
I am looking for off-road trail maps for ATVing and UTVing.
I have the following:
VV Mapping (Great Lakes ORV Trails MI, MN, WI, IN)
onX Offroad Maps
Polaris Ride Command
Each one has its pros and cons. For example:
