First long road trip after COVID

Next week we (family) are going on first road trip after COVID. We will start our trip from Toronto and stop at Quebec City. Next we will go to Rimouski Quebec. Stay there couple of days and explore the area including visiting submarine museum. This time I am using my Garmin along with Waze in Carplay. Just uploaded new POI files into Garmin for the trip and also saved all Hotels and attractions in Garmin.. Looking forward to this trip.

Gas prices

Have fun. Let us know how it goes.

What are gas prices up in Quebec these days? Us imperial system troglodytes, along with Liberians and Monrovians, will have to multiply your metric system prices by a little less than four to translate your per liter price to a per gallon price, and then the Canadian dollar by about 1.4, for a total multiplier of 5.6 to compare it to per gallon gas prices in US dollars.

Or did I mess that up? I was told there would be no math today.

GasBuddy says average US prices per state for one gallon of gas at this posting range from just under $3 in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi to just over $4.50 in Hawaii and California. Of course gas prices in some urban areas can be much higher. A lot of this is taxes.

Knowlton, QC

If you're a fan of Louise Penny, you could take a big loop around and visit Knowlton, QC. Her imaginary village of Three Pines is apparently based on Knowlton.

Enjoy your trip. It is indeed a beautiful area.

Good morning everyone. We

Good morning everyone. We came back from our road trip to Quebec yesterday. We drove to Quebec City from Toronto area. Stayed one night in Quebec City and then next day drove to Rimouski. We stayed one night in Rimouski. This place is famous for Submarine museum and Empress of Ireland ship disaster museum. Also visited another costal town St. Lucy . Next day came back in Quebec City for couple of days stay.
We used Waze on my phone with vehicle's Apple Car Play for real time information on traffic etc. and also used my Garmin Drivesmart 61.
I was impressed by Garmin's accurate traffic information. It was bang on. The other thing I liked about Garmin traffic was that it would announce that there was traffic at 98 kilometers with delay of less than 5 minutes etc.

While coming back it stopped giving traffic information. I looked at the Garmin Smart Link app, it was not updating traffic for some reason. The other issue I noticed in this app was that it does not load traffic map. If you try loading traffic map, it crashes. I deleted the app and reinstalled it and traffic info came back but map does not load on my iphone 13 pro. I checked Garmin app was last updated 4 years ago by Garmin. There is no update on the app.

Gas prices were similar like Ontario. Everywhere it was around $1.65 - $1.69 range. I filled gas twice in Quebec City Costco gas station because it was almost 10 cents cheaper.

All in all, it was a great trip after 4-5 years and Garmin did a great job. Garmin routing was also pretty close to Waze. Very impressive.

Thanks for the trip update

I'm not sure why your Garmin traffic updates were dropping in and out, but I appreciate the trip update and am glad you had a great time.

I was last in Toronto in about 1990 and in Quebec City about 1960!... but have fond memories of my visits to both cities. We have an old 8mm family home movie--that's 8mm film with no sound in that iteration, not 8mm videotape... showing me and my sister watching the Changing of the Guard at the Citadelle in Quebec City.

I went some where local

US Canadian Gas Price Comparison

Based on Rookie8155 figures:

$1.65Cdn/Liter=$4.51US/US Gallon
$1.69Cdn/Liter=$4.62US/US Gallon

Americans have it lucky at the prices that you pay.

Come on up for a visit again sometime. You'll definitely see changes. Traffic in Toronto is much worse, than 1990, but some great places and some terrific scenery.
Quebec City is always a beautiful city and lots of old world charm.

I would suggest you consider driving up the east coast through the Maritimes, and continue on to Quebec that way.

If you want to save some driving, Atlantic Tours and Maxxim Tours have some terrific bus tours, through the Maritimes.

Consider catching the trip from Halifax and take one of their bus tours to Newfoundland.

Warning: If you visit Newfoundland, be sure to pack for winter, spring & fall weather all on the same trip. It's a very beautiful and rugged part of Canada, but weather can be interesting to say the least. We landed in NL July 1, 2023 for a 10 day bus tour and had everything from 40F to 85F as we travelled through the province, but well worth it.

We saw everything from a Viking settlement, whales, icebergs, Gander Airport, where 200 planes landed on 9/11, with about 6500 passengers, that the community housed and fed with no prior notice.
