A friend called my a while ago. He is using a USB GPS receiver amd is looking for navigation software with maps for it. Does anybody here have any thoughts on what to use?
Is there a way to make Google Maps on the laptop get data from the GPS receiver and do navigation?

Laptop navigation.
I don't know the answer to this, but it sure reminds me of the good ol' days with Delorme Street Atlas USA and their LT-20 and LT-40 USB "puck" GPS receivers. I still have a couple of those laying around in my junk drawer. It was my first experience with GPS navigation using a Windows 98 laptop (or maybe it was XT?).

I still have Topo 7 and Street Atlas USA Plus 2015 running on a Virtual Win 7 machine on my Mac. Plus a handful of pucks and cables. I sure miss it, also.

Check the reviews at the link you provided. 18% are 3 or lower, and many of the reviews indicate poor reliability. A better source might be the GPS Store. They deal with this type of product all the time. See https://www.thegpsstore.com/GPS-Units/Laptop-Tablet-GPS
