Yes

USAF 1960-1964. Followed by 2 years as a USAF contractor.
Fun times coming through San Franciso terminal during the protests. Looking back it was shameful how our citizens treated service men/women in all branches. I'll never forget that!

Maybe a new badge

For vets, a new badge, perhaps a small American flag. Honor system of course.

Maybe A New Badge

That sounds like a good ideal.

Vets

I surprised that only 13 vets signed in. I would think that there would be a lot more for the age group we have here,

Yeah

I haven't been counting but I'm also disappointed that so few have responded.

Not A Veteran But I Served

I spent six months on active military duty for basic training and advanced individual training beginning in 1965 in the US Army. I was at Fort Polk, LA for two months basic training and was sent directly without a break to Fort Sam Houston, TX for four months of advanced individual training (AIT) as an Army medic.

I wasn't in the regular Army but served in the Army National Guard for 5 1/2 years of reserve duty after my six months training. Reserve duty included one weekend of duty each month and with a two-week summer camp each summer for the balance of my six year enlistment.

I didn't earlier reply to this thread because technically I'm not considered a veteran but I served my six years of military duty in the Army National Guard between 1965 and 1971.

Vets Day

Didn't see this forum topic until now, typically don't sign in every day. Likely many other vets here did not see either, or they would have sounded off.

Served in both USN and USMC from 1977-1992.

Go Navy, Beat Army!

Not a Vet

mcginkleschmidt If you served active or reserve to me you were in the military, and I am proud to recognize you as a vet. smile

Thanks For the Sentiment

Thanks for the sentiment but I still don't qualify as a veteran. The US Government makes the call on this topic.

According to the VA and U.S law, national Guardsmen/reserves are only given veteran status after 180 days of active duty, not including AIT and Basic.

Same on you

but in my book, you are a veteran even though you don’t qualify for any sort of benefits. I have a brother who did 6 years in the USAF reserves and he is in the same boat, so to speak. I consider him a vet and he even has a veteran’s license plate from the great state of TN attesting to the same.

I wonder if sporting around a veteran's license plate, when one doesn't qualify as a veteran, rises to a case of stolen valor?
