Update Installation

I received my 2008 update this week. Haven't read thru *all* the upgrade threads; anybody had problems? It looks like it takes about an hour. Any precautions to take? I want to install it but I'm heading out first thing Monday morning on a long 4 day road trip (Charlotte->Gordonsville VA->Macon GA->Morristown TN->Charlotte) and I want to make sure it is working.

Are all favorites preserved?

Thanks.

"Hello I'm a Mac"

I upgraded today to 2008 on my 670 without a hitch. I read in a previous thread that the upgrade was not compatible with a Mac but, "hello I'm a Mac" and it worked just fine. It took about an hour no special tricks. If you are taking a road trip and concerned then just wait a few days to be safe, but what do I know... “HELLO I’M A MAC

Backing up "My Favorites"

The Nuvi 360 apparently has an upgrade available to support USB 2.2. In the warning message (since I can't bring up again for some reason) it said that that I should back up My Favorites as they could be lost. I think it said something about backing them up to Mapquest or Map-something. HELP! I've always worried about losing My Favorites. Is there a way to back them up?

Yes, you can backup to Mapsource if you have it. You can request a copy from Garmin if you don't have it. Generally it is sent free of charge if you tell them you need it to backup Favorites or to work with waypoints.

Back-ups

Set your computer to show all files, including hidden/system files, and copy the entire contents of the drive letter your Nuvi shows up as on your computer to a folder elsewhere on your computer.

Turn off Garmin Lock!

Definitely turn off the Garmin Lock feature. That caused me all kinds of grief when the installation failed. I couldn't unlock the nuvi to try again.

No problems on a Nuvi 680 install

I thought I might lose POIs or my favorites. No losses. Nice install. A little over an hour to update the Nuvi.

Installation

I received my Update on 8/10/07 and installed it immediately. I thought I was going to lose my Points of Interest and my favorites. Once the update was completed, my 2820 worked great. I did not have any losses to my favorite places or POI's. It took about an hour to install.

Map Update

Does anyone know if you can reload the old version(v8) back onto a C530 after upgrading to NT 2008. Sorry I paid the money for it. Does nothing for my area and I lost Canada!

Lost Canada

You should be able to load Canada anytime, this according to a Garmin Tech I wrote to. He assured me, I could switch back and forth between the two as many times as I wished, however, admittedly I haven't actually tried it, yet. As to the old maps, they are probably on your computer's hard drive, mine are and the Garmin loader has an option to load maps when it starts up which MAY? allow you to do this, I have NOT selected that option to try it, this may only be for changing between Canada or lower 48. You might want to go there first to see what other options you have. I don't have my unit at hand to find this out for you, sorry.

OHHHHHHHH Canada

When I loaded the new update on the wifes 350 last night I thought I might be able to just hook it up to my laptop and click the mapinstall icon left on my computer from updating my 660. A map opened up with options of loading other maps which I believe included Canada, because this is not what I wanted I closed it and used the free disc Garmin gave me for her unit. THANKS Garmin

Are you sure that you lost your Canada maps?

I have a Nuvi 670 so I don't really know but are you sure that you lost your Canada maps? I just loaded NT 2008 to my 670 and thought that I lost my Canada maps. After looking some more I found that I do have them. For my 670 I go to the screen that gives me a selection of United States or Country. I select Country and then type in "CA" which brings up Canada after selecting that I select city and because I'm going to Vancouver I type in BC and it brings up British Columbia and next I type in Vancouver.........

Update Installation

Tnks for the help. BUt it seems I don't have Canada in there. Looked at "Map Info" and it says " lower 48 states." When I loaded the update disk it gave me 2 options due to lack of memory on hard drive.
Either "Lower 48 states and Hawaii and Puerto Rico or Canada and surroumding 48 states" I live in MA and am more apt to visit Canada than Hawaii. If it's possible I will reload the older version(v8}. I don't plan on visiting Canada soon, but I have in the past.

SMALL PROBLEM with update 08

When I installed my 2008 map update, I found that if I put in my address it showed up twice. It would give me two choices and both were the same route. This only happened when looking up information for Ohio or Florida.

When I went into tools, maps, and checked map information, it showed that I had both the old map (only Ohio and Florida) and the new updated 2008 map. They were both checked. When I unchecked the old map (v8) my search result would only bring up one location.

What it ended up being was that there were two portions of the old v8 map (Ohio, Florida) on my removable card. After I deleted the old maps from my card, everything worked fine. How they got there? I have no idea.

more later,
Ben

Any glaring differences?

I was just curious if anyone knows what the differences are in the V8 maps compared to the v2008? I am thinking of upgrading my C550 but is it worth it?

Thanks

Andrew

.

You can use the Map Viewer on Garmin's site to see the maps. You can look at the areas in which you are interested and see if there are changes.

free download map update 2008

where do i download for free the gps (c330) map update 2008 navigator nt USA for garmin?

it's not a download

You can obtain a DVD from Garmin for free under certain circumstances, or buy one from the Garmin web site, or perhaps you can find a local retailer that has it - I found the upgrade DVD available at my local Best Buy after the one I ordered arrived and I installed...

CANADA is in the UPDATE DISC

If you plug your GPSr into your computer and click the MapInstall Icon on your desktop (assuming you didn't delete it) it will give you options to load additional maps.

Help!!! How do I unlock my software!!!

I installed the Update. It took about 1 hour on my 2720 unit. I guess it's to late to ask now. Was I suppose to get the unlock code before Installed the new 2008 maps on my unit.

I did everything it said to do and the maps installed with no problem. I printed out the directions from there web site.

1. Write down and save this code on your unlock certificate
2. Be sure to print and save this web page in addition to writing the code (we don't want you to lose it)
3. Copy and paste the code from this page to MapSource. Here's How:
- Launch MapSource on your PC
- Press Ctrl-U
- Select 'ADD', then paste the unlock code into the space provided
- Select 'OK'.
Now the MapSource region you chose is unlocked!

Fine I downloaded the latest version of Mapsource. I pressed Ctrl U but anything after that I do not see.

I choose I have a 25 digit unlock code which I got from purchasing from the Mapsource Unlock Part of garmins Site.

Then I select I have a 25 digit unlock code which I will select.
I enter the code and put a comment in:Garmin 2008 update Maps.
Yes I have a new registration code
It then asks me to log on to Garmin with my password and username. It then comes back and asks for a 7 character registration code. But on the DVD I got sent it was a 8 digit code. Where am I messing up at?

Please help as I leve for vacation tomorrow.

Might be working!

After posting this I see that jmar254 had an message about how to install the Update correctly on the computer/GPS.

I did my different as I didn't see this message first but I wish I did. Anyways I could not get past the registration part of the program. I did the software install exactly like it stated but had problem with the registration side.

I did was jmar254 recommend on using the Unlock wizard. His was much more in detail than what garmin posted on my print out. My maps are all unlock but how do I know if my maps are unlocked on my GPS unit.

Will the unlock code be sent to my Garmin 2720 that I entered into the Mapsource Software. I see that it says City Navigator North America NT 2008
[1] City Navigator North America NT 2008 All for map details. The software version: 7.10
Audio Version Karen - V1.40

Thanks for all your help

I upgraded both my 580 and my wife's 330 without a problem on either one. All favorites remained in both units without being lost.

If the NT 2008 is checked in map details, you should be good to go.

Garmin is Fague!

Garmin is very vague on there directions on installing the keycode. I wish I would of found the other persons walk though on installing the software and keycode.

I have everything working now.
