I mowed the grass today for about the first time in 2 weeks, just to control the weeds. Unless we get some rain soon I probably won't be mowing again for a while.

Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa. I'm sure you are all familiar with that Costner line from the "Field of Dreams" movie. Well ... one little piece of that "heaven" that we local's get every year is fresh "corn on the cob" ... direct farm to consumer via roadside stands. It's a couple of weeks late this year because of a cold spring that prevented working in the fields, but I had my first treat for this year with this evening's meal. I think I have cooked corn on the cob in every way there is and it is hard to ruin it. Tonight, I simply steamed it in a double boiler ... drench the hot ear in butter, a little salt and pepper, close your eyes while you chew it off and enjoy! I usually save the corn until after I have finished the rest of the meal. It is like dessert to me!
Enjoy your weekend!
