Space travel ?

Well in the last 10 days we saw two private space flights. Personally even if I could afford it I wouldn't do it.

Having said that, to me Sir Richard Bransons vehicle was superior in the accommodation and probably felt more like a flight we all take to get from A to B.

To go up on a rocket then come down and bump somewhere into an open field seems so 60 years ago! They called it a "soft" landing?

But those are my opinions.

Softer than some

The Soyuz capsule has indeed been landing with a final abrupt rocket blast to slow the rate of descent since 1967. No one who has ridden the thing has called it gentle. Just to add to the fun, the type of parachute it uses gives it a substantial lateral velocity. By comparison the Blue Origin landing is very gentle indeed.

For an example, see this youtube video from 2010:

I live in New Mexico, so as a taxpayer (we paid hundreds of millions for SpacePort New Mexico) I hope Virgin Galactic reaches a good flight rate so the state revenue will get back some of what we spent. But I honestly think the Blue Origin effort looks a lot safer and gives a much better view.

I think it is likely that one of these efforts will kill a load of passengers before very long. The U.S. Space Shuttle was the fruit of an effort to produce an extremely safe vehicle, which turned out to have about a 1% chance of killing the crew for each mission.

I'd actually like to

I'd actually like to experience it, not that I'm willing to pay though. I'm hoping this can lead faster flights across the globe, but I'm not sure if they'll be able to make it comfortable.

Probably

Richard Bransons would work more for something like that since it lands like a plane. Though I think this thing would need priority landing since I don't think it could circle an airport waiting for permission to land. But they'd also have to have many of the carrier planes all over the world for take-off to make that work.
