I think there is a bug in software version 7.80 on all nüvi 2x5 series and later model nüvi 2x0 series devices. The nüvi models affected will add to the turn distance randomly while just simply driving. For example, all my 2x5 devices and my 200W and 260W. I turn on the road. The distance to my next turn is 1.4 miles. About 1/4 mile down the road it will for example add another 1.4 miles, resulting in the nüvi thinking there are 2.8 miles to your next turn, though there isn't. As a result, when your turn comes up, the nüvi won't speak. These are the only models I see this issue with. A master reset won't solve the issue. I am currently DM'ing Garmin on Twitter and the person who's assisting me (CP) has opened a ticket for the issue, so we'll see where that ends up. I will post back here with updates.
I’ve had a similar circumstance with a 265 but chalked it up to being way out in the country where sometimes road names and route number change.
I wonder if this problem is tied to newer map versions? Is this something that has recently started happening, or has it always been an issue on this series? Software 7.80 on the 2x5 series was released in September 2015 ... more than 5 years ago! I would think if this problem was introduced with that software it would have been a big discussion item in the forums, and I don't recall ever reading anything about it. What map version are you running?
I am running 2009-2011.40 maps. It varies among them. It very well could be the maps, but the 265WT has 2021.20. Some may have just ended up buying a new one.
This is what they DM'd me. Makes sense, but there's probably a chunk of customers using these things.
I hope that you're doing well! I wanted to touch base with you regarding the navigation troubles that you're experiencing with your nuvi 200 series of devices. Our engineers responded to the ticket that we created for this issue letting us know that they will be unable to investigate further. Due to the age of these devices, they are no longer under software maintenance and new software updates aren't being developed for them. Since software version 7.80 was released around six years ago, it's unlikely that these issues were a direct result of updating the software to that version.

Can't offer any advice but my Nuvi 205 sometimes does exhibit this bug. You know that you have to turn left in a 1/4 mile but the turn display will show 4 miles ahead. Other times, as you get closer to your next direction the distance drops very fast.
I have the 7.8 version and it is running the 2022.10 maps. It is a bug but it won't be fixed due to the age of the devices.
