I think

If you go to proximity alerts screen you can set the volume independent of the main volume but it’s been forever since I looked and cannot swear it to be so.

alert volume

The 3597 mixer has settings for master volume, navigation, and phone. Master volume affects alerts.

When my 3597 was new, the alerts were too low no matter how the mixer was set. I changed the volume inside the sound files using a free website.

You probably need to experiment with files of different volume.

Alert file names

I tried to locate the alerts but I'm not finding them.
Are they a part of the voices?

Which school zone alerts?

Are you talking about custom POI alerts or Garmin built-in school zone alerts?

Just guessing here

My guesses are:

-I doubt they're part of the voice file since voices are updated so rarely and it seems that Garmin might want to update an occasional alert more often than voice file updates. Also, if part of the voice file, then each time an alert would need to be revised, all voice files (and they are moderately large) would need to be revised,

-They could be built into the map file or other file that's part of a map update,

-They could be one of the files in the odd folders like ASR, SID, SQLite, etc. or in a file in a protected partition preventing access from users.

In any event, I don't know what you'd be able to do even if you found the correct file since my next guess is that there's no editing program for such files. I'll stop now since my guesses here have exceeded my morning cups of coffee. wink

Files

I'm trying to modify volume on the Garmin built-in school zone alerts.

Raise the master volume

There is no setting in the mixer just for Garmin school zone alerts. If the Navigation voice is now the correct volume, raise the Master volume and lower the Navigation volume.

There is some doubt in my mind whether the bong-bong of the Garmin school zone alert is on the Navigation volume or the Master volume.

Agreed. I don't know if the school zone bong bong is altered by Nav, Master or quite possibly both. Even if it does, a change in volume would equally change the turn-by-turn voice volume as well as the school zone volumes and I imagine most folks prefer to set their turn-by-turn volume to what they want, then live with all other sounds at the preferred TbT volume setting.

It may be that you got cassel excited when you mentioned altering the volume of your sound file alerts with a website. I'll guess that the sound files you altered to be louder were wav files for your Custom POIs and not any built-in Garmin sound. Yes? If so, that most likely won't help cassel.

Yes

Edited the wav files for Custom POI volume.

yes, Do the wav file change

yes, Do the wav file change is the way

Garmin alert

I find the school zone alert annoying, as in my area many are out of date. I was just hoping to lower or eliminate the Garmin alerts entirely.
