what's the purpose of qualifying activity last 5 weeks last 26 weeks?

I was thinking about it, it generates people adding seemingly useless comments every week to keep the above alive.

At the same time, is it patterned after A1C like when the doctor is checking for glucose?

It does strike me as quite odd.

It keeps traffic coming the

It keeps traffic coming the site. The GPS market has matured and most of the units are consumer ready, and don't require any tweaking to just do their job, out of the box.

Mostly, the ones here are the tinkerers. The ones who try to discover and use hidden features and capabilities. The few who really need help are users of old units, don't understand what the unit is supposed to do, and trying to make outdated units compete the latest models.

Personally, I come here to see if anyone has discovered something new that that is neat and cool. And to lend what expertise I have to those needing help. If a cookie gets tossed my way, then that's just a bonus!

Forum Activity.

I participate in some other forums for GPS enthusiasts. As gps technology has become commonplace and most people have switched from dedicated GPS devices to smart phones, the GPS related forums are dying. Many of them only get a handful of posts a week now, if that.

JM and Globe Turtle (as well as the regular members) have done a good job of keeping this forum active and relevant by providing useful organized content and encouraging social interaction among members. The qualifying rules are part of that formula.

Even with that, the volume of activity on this forum is declining too. I am afraid the continuing decline of GPS forums is inevitable.

that will happen it will be great loss for many.
I just hope it will not be in my lifetime.
I'm getting up there!

It's true that many are using Smartphones to navigate instead of dedicated GPSr's. Whichever you use, the fact is, we are still navigating!

We all share a common interest in travelling and hopefully, that will keep sites like POI Factory going.

Well, just remembering the

Well, just remembering the original purpose. Just remember, Most built in Vehicle GPSs are almost impossible to add POIs to. It's also pretty hard to maintain a large base of POIs on a phone, AFAIK, not really usable if you are using Google Maps, or Waze. Or Apple Maps.

So, as long as folks still need POI files, I guess we can still have place to hang out. At least, I hope so!

ah

gotcha! It does remind me of the A1C and glucose, kinda like you can't fool it by eating well for 2 weeks etc.

You miss one week of posting, and you cannot have a 26/26 for quite a long time.

For our new members

Rather than have to search for them, here are the two member recognition designations under discussion including why the stars were added to the initial windmill:

IIRC this is the answer, when I joined you had to be active or pay to access the RLC and speed cam files for download.
