Phone companies can now block robocalls automatically

A start in the right direction but a mandate will likely be needed to the phone companies.

Why Do I Still Have a Land Line?

I can't remember the last time the phone rang and it was a legitimate call from someone we actually know.

Our "real" calls come to us on the mobile.

I've used the SIT sound file for years (I used to work telecom too) for when I'm actually near the phone when it rings and I'm not busy. Being able to have it on a spare digital recorder comes in very handy.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

Cricket Wireless

I have Cricket Wireless which is owned by AT&T. I average 30-40 spam calls a day. I gave up blocking the number on my iphone and the free/paid app called Hiya. As soon as I block the number that calls me another one is used. I just let everything go to voicemail. If the person is in my contacts list then I will pick up other wise if I am not familiar with the phone number it goes to voice mail. I have lost out on several phone calls that I should of picked up but didn't.

I would say within the last 6 months it has been extremely bad but before that i would get 1-2 spam calls a day. So what the heck has changed. I talk to many people a day and they get just as many calls a day as I do. Are the cellphone companies selling our phone numbers to make money.

Someone needs to start fining these telemarketers and spammers.

I plan to call Cricket Wireless and see what they plan to do about this problem soon.

Good luck all.

Went whole week

Went whole week without the Phone ringing once for a Robo Call! Between Arizona AG declaring war on Robo Calls and my DigiTone blocking Area Code 202 and Programed Numbers. Peaceful Week!!!

Thanks

Very insightful article.

The short answer is...

mgarledge wrote:

I get a call that said it is from my health care provider and when I answer it said something about my credit card.

Do these spoofed callers actually think that someone who thinks they are answering their health care will give out information when asked about their credit card and not their health care?

I would think people that answer and see it isn't their health care will hang up.

Why do they keep spoofing the incorrect number as when you answer you know it is not who they say it it???

Yes. You will be surprised at how quickly some seniors will fall for this scam. The scammers will say that they are from the person’s health care company, that they are updating their insurance records and that they need your credit card information to verify it with your doctor’s office. I am a retired cop and and also a retired corporate security manager. Never, never, never, give out a credit card number to someone who calls you. If you think the call is legitimate, call the company directly, but do not use the number that was given to you by the person that called you. Look it up online, through a phone book, if you have one; or from a past bill that you have received.

It must be working, I get

It must be working, I get very few spam calls on my cell and the 5+/day robocalls we use to get at work have dropped considerably to maybe 1 or 2/week.

Wish Mine Was

Wish I could say that the number of calls I receive were on the decline. I’m still getting close to 10 calls each day on my Verizon service. I have just started to not answer any number not in my list and then see if they have left a voice mail ....... Real pain in the rear

Tired of..

These robo callers need a piece of there own medicine...to be robo called!
