this is a sad week end for my son his dog and friend of 16 years is going to be put down, it was a tough decision to make but its time, he found three puppies while hunting in Idaho in a ditch he took one gave one to his partner and one to another friend, I know this is a hard thing for him to do but I also know its best for the dog at this point he's taking pain meds he falls all the time he's going blind he cant hear any more and he whimpers a lot so he still in pain. I still remember when my mom had my dog put down about 65 years ago wile I was at school I was so mad at her it took a long time before I new she did what was best for the dog and she was right !

This is tough
This is a sad situation and we will be thinking of you. It is tough to have to put a dog down, but the quality of life for the dog has severely declined and the dog is probably hanging on for you. Spend quality time time with the dog, showing affection, and letting the dog know it is okay to go. If you can get a vet to come to your house to do the euthanization, that is much more pleasent than having to go to the clinic. We put a 16 year old basset down almost 10 years ago. It was one of the hardest things in my life that I have ever done. Fortunately the vet came to our house and she died peacefully in the bed while I held her in my arms.

I feel for you I had to put my sheltie down five yrs ago and I still miss her, She was with me 24/7
