Today's dashcam video of the day

There have been a few threads on dashcams here so I thought I'd start one to post odd, interesting, or just plain stupid stuff you capture with one. Please feel free to contribute to this thread you videos.

White van, in a hurry, black pick-up, not today

What ?

Nothing unusual about that if you drive in Mexico. We call it make a new lane. In Mexico you can expect to be passed on double lines, going uphill and in curves. Occasionally even on your right side.

Now having said that, I have to be honest. If there is a real slowpoke ahead of me who does not move over to drive on the shoulder to allow passing, I too will pass on a double line if it is safe to do so. There are other times you MUST do so for example an underpowered overloaded 18 wheeler towing a secondary trailer crawling uphill so slow you can count the lug nuts going round.

You get used to it!

I hear ya but I'm not in Mexico and the guy in the white van was being ignorant, the pick-up had other vehicles in front of him waiting for opposing traffic that was turning causing his slowness.

I travel this spot many times a day in my work truck and going home in my Jeep and it's a free for all there. The direction I was traveling gets a green left arrow at the end of the normal green cycle but the opposing traffic doesn't stop making right turns, I even wrote to the state about it and they eventually put up a couple signs to indicate as much but people ignore any sense of courtesy when driving in Philadelphia, much less legal signs.

Note the white Van making a turn before the light changes for me. Double stop signs at the end of his road, one on each side, guess he didn't see either one of them.

the more I think of it, the more I really think human nature is not conducive to not needing 4k cams blanketing the earth.

At our gym, a toddler was run over and the community was remorseful and held a vigil. Today, I am leaving and this guy in his 60's is barreling at me in his Grand Cherokee, why, he's hurrying because he's going the wrong way in a one way. He decided that those parking spaces were too far for him to walk and so he banged a U'ey.

I would say, if a toddler could get run over by a vehicle not that long ago, and nothing changes a month later, we need cams, and we need them permanently. I have him on my cam so if he killed someone, there would be some record to show what he did.

Timely

This just happened today in a parking lot. How sad. A friend said he hit them so hard, the air bags deployed.

Speaking of parking lots ...

I saw this as I was getting in my Jeep one day, checked out the video later and saw how ignorant some folks can be ...

btw

btw we parked in Manhattan on Sunday, and I left the dashcam in place. Quite uneventful, as I believe the valets are totally used to it in NYC. I even heard two talking about it.

What is interesting, is seeing the path the vehicle takes after it leaves you. Took longer to get it there, than coming back, and it did not move the entire time (well never say never maybe they cut the power know how to remove a locked file, etc. It can be done--stupid the dash cam is not even password protected).

My opinion FWIW

They should stay in lanes and follow the rules of the road like everyone else.

I like cams ...

I really like the idea of having one to watch the valet ... don't do that much, but it would add piece of mind.

Addicting on YouTube

When we've run out of sitcoms to watch on TV, we switch over to to YouTube and watch hours of these dash cam video compilations.

We debate wether they make us better motorcyclists because we try to yell out what's sign to happen before the climax of the video, to see if we spot what goes wrong beforehand.

They are entertaining, but also a great learning tool.

Dash Cams

Are all of the dash cams hard wired or are they portable so you can move them from one vehicle to another. Would like one in the jeep , motorhome, and wife's car

Two dashcam vids spliced together.

The first guy makes a left turn from the center (of 3) lanes going in the same direction, the second is a guy who was too lazy to park next to the curb in the empty area and blocks a travel lane.

So ... (that's the way folks start a sentence these days right?) the guy in the pick-up wants the guy at the red light to make a right turn on red, no signs to prohibit it at the intersection, but the guy up front doesn't go. No law that says you have to, in fact I have a friend who refuses to do a right on red so he doesn't put his signal on. This intersection though, you can't go straight so it's the only way the guy can go, anyway the impatient pick-up goes around the guy. The next car (out of camera) honks at the guy sitting at the light, feeling the pressure the guy goes and, just after, the light turns green.

Just at the end of the video you can see the second guy flapping his arms. I guess he was just hollering Merry Christmas.

Snow Geese

Saw a pretty interesting site a couple days ago, thousands of snow geese in what was a corn field. Look on the left side of the highway, what looks like a covering of snow is actually the geese. (Click on the youtube link for my dashcam video. You really need a full size screen and high def to see them)

Who can fix stupid?

You all seem to be surprised about people behavior. May it be on the road or anywhere else. You think it is getting bigger now? No, it's just tech like cameras are so cheap, that can be mounted in cars. It always was like that, you just have access to more evidence on film.

Sad thing is that you can't fix stupid. They often kill themselves and problem is solved. But often they kill others too. If you have people with brain deficiency all they can do is to show off. It makes them feel important and better than others. So it will continue, as long as stupid people will be born. And this doesn't seem to end soon.

Surprised?

I'm not a fan of red light cams, but this guy is the reason we have them. After the one idiot zooms through, it looked like another, a few seconds behind, was going to go for it as well, look at the traffic to the left hesitate, then you can see a little bit of the red car that caused that hesitation.
