Recommendation (traffic without smartphone)

Haven't been active in a while as been using the smartphone but I am looking to replace an older Garmin unit and looking for the best unit with traffic that don't need a smartphone to provide it per the preference of who will be using it.
Was looking at a Refurbished DriveSmart 51 LMT-S but see needs the smartphone app.

In my opinion...

...the best unit out there is the Nuvi 3597. It uses a traffic cord that provides pretty good coverage and you can find them on Amazon from around $150.00 for a used unit all the way up to a refurbished unit for about $380.00. If you shop around, you may find a refurbished unit for less than that. I have one and it is by far the best unit that I have ever owned.

Another choice...

is the DriveLuxe 50 LMTHD. This model is a year older than the 51/61. They come with the Traffic receiver built into the device and are still available at a few places (such as iSave fulfilled by Amazon).

Traffic

My older 2797 has traffic and it works. Now my new to me Smartdrive 50LMT-HD also has traffic and on my recent 3000 mile trip I think the older traffic in the 2797 works better.

Hmmm ...

That's surprising as your newer device has digital traffic, or at least the ones in UK have. Here it's way more accurate and up to date, including reports of what's causing the delay, eg accident, debris on road, etc etc

HD Traffic

For those who choose not to use Smartphone Link, HD Traffic is arguably the best way to go.

Garmin's GTM 60 external receiver / power cable for HD traffic is compatible with many older GPSr's. The list is available here:

I'm not sure of your budget but you should be able to find one on the list as a refurbished or used unit. If the GTM 60 receiver cable isn't included, you may have to buy it separately.

Thanks for the

Thanks for the recommendations, Hoping I can find one that is not to expensive
