What to do with 'POI Verifier'?

Ok, Gang, I need your input. I got 'Top Notch Computers' put to bed, but will try to keep 'POI Verifier' going if enough desire. The bad news is since it's no longer a business venture I'll need help with the host and domain name expense ..... figure a small 'donation' of about $6 a download. I could set it up through PayPal using either a credit card (no PayPal account required) or PayPal transfer. Of course, they get their cut, but this would keep everything secure and confidential.

Another problem is since 'POI Verifier' was being revised so often I wrote it to require periodic updates to keep everyone on the same 'playing field'. For some versions the next update will be required on August 1st, making it necessary to do something soon if we want to keep it going.

So I need to know, is it used enough to make it worthwhile to keep it going?

Please send me an email or post your thoughts here. Thanks.

Maybe it could be hosted on POI Factory?

JM & Miss Poi would have to decide on that and how to handle things - or, as 'hornbyp' suggested in another thread, you could hand it off a willing volunteer to have it open-source.

It is truly a great program, and for me was of significant utility in creating the National Weather Service Radio files.

Thanks - and continue to enjoy your full-time retirement.

POI Verifier is invaluable

RT,

I find your program invaluable when I am building a POI file. It's saved my sanity many times leading a group POI project. (Olive garden, Hilton,...)

And personally I think that it belongs here on POI factory. It's like a cornerstone of what this community is all about.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

I don't think that was me ;-)

Well, I think someone made the suggestion...

sorry I attributed it incorrectly.

That would be me.

That would be me. See

RT,

Thanks for your contribution! Any chance you would open source POI Verifier? It would be great if the community could continue to add changes to your tool. I with help from others from the community could help with beta testing, hosting a download site and the compiles.

PoiVerifier.com

Had a free day so I threw together a quick website. Got an easy-to-remember domain name; will continue 'POI Verifier' at PoiVerifier.com for now. Downloaded program activation requires a registration number.

I used it all the time

Glad you're going to continue to supply the program. I use it to verify downloads and check new POI files. Wouldn't want to be without it.
Let us know how to download and how to obtain registration number.

I just got off his website. He got the Registration Number back to me so fast I almost got whiplash. It works like a charm. I'm glad to contribute.

PoiVerifier.com

Thanks, Guys!

PoiVerifier.com will get you to it. Go to the 'How Do I Install It?' link in the left window. Hope the instructions will get you through it.

Any questions, just yell.

Just a few questions that

Just a few questions that I'm not clear on.

The web site asks you to click to make a donation, but elsewhere it says that the program won't work without an activation code that requires a donation to get. Is this an error, or is this now pay software?

There isn't a mention of upgrades. Your initial message here says $6 per download... is that good for lifetime downloads, or just until the next version comes out, or just the one shot download?

Will all future versions also include an expiration at which point they will cease functioning?

Thanks in advance for the response.

Just follow the instructions on the website. You download the file, start it and record the serial number, click the donation button and paste in the serial number, I receive an email with your serial number and I email you a registration number, you enter it in the program and click register ... you're ready to go. If you consider a $6 donation to help cover "hosting and domain name costs" as a 'now pay software', then yes it is. (Don't forget PayPal gets their cut.)

There is no expiration date on this version. As with any other downloaded software, it's good for one download. Until I have to spend another $150+ for new Programming software, donors will have access to updates for a reasonable length of time. Lifetime???? ... no.

Thanks for the interest.

Thanks. Since so many have already used it and I just tried it myself, the error must be caused by incorrect data entered (i.e. your Credit Card/PayPal information). Please try it again and keep me posted.

Thanks again.

Brower's Privacy set too high

This warning is displayed when the Web Browser's "Privacy" is set too high. It must be set at "low" in order for the Browser and Ebay to pass personal information. You can set it back up after the transaction is completed. (I'll put instructions on PoiVerifier.com on how to do this with Internet Explorer 6 and 7).

Thanks for the heads-up, bobkz.
