Welcome Back (Web site slow during disk recovery)

Welcome back, JM. It's still a little sluggish, but it's working.

Disk Recovery

We had some disk storage trouble overnight. The RAID subsystem is recovering, and that will continue to slow things down for a while as data is being replicated across hard disks.

I thought maybe someone

I thought maybe someone tripped over the power cord. smile Good job.

I was afraid the forum went away, just like the Delorme Forums did three weeks ago, after Garmin bought Delorme out.

I feel ya on the RAID issues

Just spent a second weekend rebuilding servers and reconfiguring RAID arrays at home myself. Fun but tiring trying to keep things up 24/7. Switched over from Oracle Virtual Box running on a Server 2008 R2 (hosting several virtual servers) to a VMWare host with the virtual servers on that instead. What a difference in speed. Camerabob is very happy!

I notice too this morning I was getting the famous spinning wheels.

So funny.

Hopefully it has been cleaned up. Wouldn't want anyone to track it.

Recovery is progressing well...

I temporarily disabled "Today's popular content" and a few other features that were adding extra load to the database.

Replication is currently about 17% complete, and the rate of progress has increased considerably since yesterday. I expect the RAID array will be back to a clean state in two or three days.

you may get a further

You may get a further increase in the restoration if you could clean all the reside left by the COWs in their pasture. Oh, sweep up the dirt from those spilled Bonsai pots too...
