couple small things went smoothly.

"You can't get there from here"

question

Update went smooth no problems 3597.

When it says update complete you can scroll down and there is "voice updates not being used" you can click on.

One of them is English so did the voice I'm using get updated or do I have to check it and update?

I'm using Jill (I think.

Goodness, for such a short post, you said a lot. Here are my thoughts on your questions using GE 5 and my nuvi 3597:

1) the 3597 doesn't offer a Jill so I'll guess you're using Samantha now and earlier.

2) Yes, under Tools & Content, there are the Optional Updates including 'voices not in use.' If you checked the English, and then Install, you will have added all seven TTS3 voices as well as the four non-TTS voices:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42708
However, I'm not sure if that would have updated your Samantha and Jack to the new-this-month updates. To be sure, check your nuvi: Tap Settings, Down Arrow as needed, Device, then look for Audio Version. Both Samantha and Jack (you will only see your selected voice) will be version 2.50. If not 2.50, you'll need to update again with either Garmin Express or WebUpdater and update both Jack and Samantha. To do either of these voice updates with Garmin Express, you need to have one of them your selected voice. Then switch to the other voice and repeat. Or just use the old WebUpdater program to update both to 2.50. Here's hoping you already have both at 2.50 for the two voices.

3) (Not asked by you but added here for completeness) Ah, finally! The recent two Chinese Region Only voice updates that upset some of us curmudgeons now are not auto-offered and auto-installed but are in Tools & Content, Optional Updates, Other Files where they belong.

Now downloading. Thank you.

Now downloading.

Thank you.

CraigW thanks for the info.

I show Samantha 250 so the answer is yep it was updated "without" checking and updating optionals.

Thanks for the response.

Yes indeed. Look to my earlier post, Part 3 above.

Both Samantha and Jack were updated to v2.50. If you see Samantha offered now, it's because Sam's your selected voice. To update to the newest Jack with GE, switch you selected voice to Jack, then run GE again. (In the future, you can do all voice updates rather than just your selected voice by using Garmin WebUpdater program instead of running GE.)

Thanks... Updated Samantha,

Thanks... Updated Samantha, but no Jack here... Set for other American English lady, but no updates on that... Back to Samantha..

Getting use to it

Not a big fan of the software, but forced to use with not to many alternatives.

Still running 4.5

Haven't updated yet. Will do so when the 2017 map (code named 2018) is published.

Trouble installing Garmin Express 5.0.0.0

Running Windows 10 x64, Garmin Express 4.5.0.0 :

1. Attempted upgrade from existing Garmin Express menus.
Download failed consistently when the progress bar was at about 2/3 done. I tried at least 5 times.

2. Tried to download the new version from the Garmin website using Firefox. The website misidentified my system as OS X !!!

3. Used Microsoft Edge to download. The download succeeded.

4. Attempted installation. Privilege error starting some service.

5. Reattempted installation running installer as administrator. (Yes, my username is in the Administrator group.) Same privilege error.

6. Called tech. support. They suggested installing from username Administrator. That worked.

Not what I would call user-friendly nor seemless!

GE Updated without my permission

Garmin Express updated itself to 5.0 without my permission. I can't figure out how to keep GE from updating. Very aggravating.

><> Glenn <>< Garmin nüvi 2598

Well

It will do so according to Garmin if there are what it deems to be 'critical updates' ... no doubt because in the past folks have complained Express isn't working some time after Garmin have released a fix for known issues.

Look at the photo I've linked below.

When you open GE there's a gear icon, click on it and it brings up another interface, choose "Schedule" within that area is a way to turn it off.

My GE is version 5.1.0.0 using Windows 10 home.

Congrats. I do like the effort you put in to get everything needed into your image. Well done!

But ...

... Be aware that regardless of what you select you will still get any update Garmin regard as critical.

Soberbyker, That's A Different Issue

I already have GE schedule set to Never, and I have it set not to run in the background. Neither of those settings seem to prevent GE from updating itself.

My GE is 5.1.00

I just looked and I have my GE set to download updates anytime.
I also have it NOT running in the background.
Do I have to open it to get it to download or does it do it automatically even thought I don't have it running in the background all the time?
