Additional subjects for discussion

I think we can all agree that one of the best things about POI Factory is the people who hang out here. Our recent discussion on “high mileage vehicles” got me to thinking about what other things might be fun to chat about with our group.

Looking around at other tech sites, JM and I and noticed that several include non-tech discussion areas for topics such as home improvement, TV/movies, health/fitness, automotive and PC Hardware, just to name a few.

Rather than trying to guess what new forums we think might be popular, we thought we’d toss this out for community discussion. So, in addition to GPS and POI discussions, what other subject areas would you like to chat with people in our group about?

You can share ideas in this thread, or you can even go ahead and try out a subject by starting a new post in the welcome/open talk area. If we find an area that’s attracting a lot of interest, we can create a new forum area and move the posts there.

Home Improvement

We can always use advice on projects around the house. We are talking about fixing up our back yard. With projects like this we always have questions that I surface for.

Another idea

There could be a list of people who have skills. When we need to know something we could come here first to see if anyone on this site has information on the knowledge we need to know.

Pets

Pets, I enjoy taking video's and photo's of my Lab and his crazy adventures but unfortunately you can't post photo's here and posting links takes the person reading to click and then find their way back here to click on the next etc. (pet peeve clicking a link on this site makes you leave the site, not open a new window)

Links

For a windows PC with IE or Firefox a right click gives you the option to open in a new tab so you do not loose your current location.

Yes I know

Yes I'm aware of that, however this is the only forum I visit (of about 15) that doesn't open a new tab or window and I forget to do it (right click), so I look at the link then close the window, which closes my session here. It's frustrating and often I just shrug and move on to the next place in cycberspace on the list.

PS the right click works in Chrome too, if you remember to do it.

Ctrl

I hold down the "Ctrl" when I click a link and the link opens in a new window.

If I forget and go to the link, I get back to my original site (in this case, poi-factory.com) by pressing the "Back" button at the top left of my browser.

And sometimes I remember to go "back" as you suggest but as I said 99% of the places I visit don't work the way this forum does and I'm just so used to the others that I end up closing out of here by closing the linked page from habit.

RV's

Recreational vehicles would be an interesting subject....at least for me.

I certainly would refrain from any comments/Advice on ...

...medical or financial matters. Both have some serious restrictions & prohibitions on who can say what. mad

I second this!!

I do a lot of work around the house, as well as help others with projects.. I could offer advice as well as find some. No one Knows EVERYTHING!!

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm a fan of pet stuff as well, so as soon as we have the picture option you'll all be inundated with pics and videos of my dog.
In the meantime, it looks like home improvement might be a popular topic.
Feel free to continue to start non-related GPS threads in the open discussion area and as similar themes emerge we'll start grouping them into addition forum areas.

Thanks!
