Voice Command

I have a question. I have a 2430 that I like very much. However, ever so often the Voice Command screen pops up with the kind lady telling me to "Say a Command". I do not call up this screen since I do not use it at all. I dismiss it with the command "Exit". It comes up maybe once a month although last week it appeared twice in one day. It is really not a problem, just a curiosity. Anyone else encounter this?

Yes. Either the radio or

Yes. Either the radio or normal conversation will cause it. You can change the voice activation phrase to something else.

off or more secure

I've used voice command on both my 3790 and my 3597. I've replaced the default activation phrase with one that scores as pretty secure, but on the 3790 once in a while radio music would give a pattern the unit considered a good enough match to activate. You might be able to get yours to trigger less often by changing the wake up phrase.

Better yet, if you never wish to use it at all, I suspect yours has as mine do an option to disable voice command altogether.

While I don't find the voice command helpful for most routine operations, on the 3790 I actually found it a more efficient method to enter street addresses than touch screen typing. Especially once I turned off the sound confirmation of entry. The 3597 street voice entry is very different, and I'm just getting used to it, but hope it will also prove useful.

When I was using my 2460 in my work truck every now and then the air dryer release noise would activate the voice command. I now use a 2689 and it hasn't happened yet.

I'll have to get the instructions out again.... neutral

use two words

I use

Listen <_someting_>

And that knocks out about 99% of the false and random activation.

For me the second word is

"Carnak"

If you don't know what it is search on YouTube and you can be elucidated.

Stereo

Yup. A music on the stereo sometimes triggers mine.

Funny thing is it's not necessarily English songs that cause it.

You can change the strength of your password

Go to Voice Command in Apps and type in the change. There will be a strength meter that will inform you of your Voice Command wake-up phrase strength. The longer the better. I use the name of my old army unit. It is sufficiently long enough and complicated enough that I very seldom get a wake-up from the GPS unless I want it to wake-up. Sometimes the radio will cause it to wake-up and ask you what you want it to do.
On a side note; recently my brother had his iPhone in his car and a voice on the radio said, 'Hey Siri'. The phone came to life and the phone and radio for a short time were actually trying to talk to each other. It said it was hilarious. So, sometimes these voice activated gizmos do crazy things.

I would get accidental activations too often with the default, so I changed it to "Kirk to Enterprise". Haven't had an accidental since!

Beaming

Beam me up, Scotty.

If similar to 3597

Mine does this after an update or hard reset, I forget about this setting until I get the prompt one day while driving down the road. On the 3597, I select Apps, then Voice Command, then the Wrench symbol and there's a checkbox for Voice Command. Unchecking it disables it.

Accidents?

Instead of changing the activation phrase to prevent accidents, just get Depends. grin

I'll try not to pamper my reply; it depends how you read it. Accidental voice activation, not accidents. Now come here for a huggie, big guy. smile

I was reminded of this thread yesterday

I was reminded of this thread on my 700-drive home from Thanksgiving yesterday, WS.

While playing an hour-long CD of Tuvan throat singing music (I blame Richard Feynman for this) during the drive through Utah, I found that my nuvi was fooled about two dozen times thinking I was activating voice command.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised since this music often reminds me of the NOAA weather alert signal rolleyes that starts and stops its breaking into broadcast FM radio signals for a weather alert and that I reported here quite some time ago that the signal consistently activates my voice command.

Proven Solution

Just change the voice activation phrase to "Honey, I have a suggestion for you". I find that everything stops listening after you say that phrase.

hahahahahahaha

The voice command

has happened to me also, it just started. I have tried to voice an address & it gives me one from across the country, have tried several times even giving it my city with the address, stopped & no noise in the vehicle. I gave up on it lol it's quicker to just type it in.

Living in Arizona you would crack up at the Aussie pronunciation of all the Mex street names!

voice activated, its

Nuvi 3597

My NUVI does the same thing at random times.

It activated many times while Radio is on

I had many few instances it activated while Radio on.

Works both ways

A popular call in radio tech talk show with national coverage has listeners in stitches every time someone calls in with a question about the Amazon Echo and says Alexa which is the trigger phrase for it like "Hey, Siri" on the iPhone. The Echo wakes up, often repeating, "I don't understand."
